hi guys i tried searching the forum about this but i couldn't find anything. so i thought i start this thread... uhh has anyone tried the cheapo newstar adapters for their effects? are they reliable?

Not reliable.

You might find a few good ones there and there but NOT reliable.

Don't be al-cheapo, spend a little for the 1Spot - available @ Mrmisse.

newstar is a brand like ibanez.

ibanez makes elcheapo crappo to the ultimate dream machine.

newstar makes 1001 types of adapters from unregulated to regulated in all sorts of wattage.

newstar don't suck. newstar rocks. I've been using mine since 1994 and its still running.

get one that says, "IC stabilised", "regulated" and you're good.

yup, i modded mine to work regulated and even integrated the daisy chain into the adaptor head.

Cheap and good, for only 5 bucks.

Newstar adapter

Hi,

If you want to use a Newstar, get a Regulated one like someone mentioned.

I used to use a unregulated voltage adjustable Newstar many years back. I set it to 9V and powered my pedals using a daisy chain. Then my DD6 froze up! Maybe cos the digital elctronics couldnt take it. The rest of my analog pedals still worked, but i guess the power coming out from it was unhealthy anyway.

I actually measured the outputs with a multimeter. The 9V setting outputs close to 12V, and the 12V outputs close to 15V. In the end i had to use the 6V output.

I havent measured the Regulated ones though...

Yup you're right. it outputs 12 from the 9, I set it to 6 to use as a 9.

probably a screen/labeling error.

Newstar

Its not a labelling error. The unregulated supply actually fluctuates with voltage ripples. Hence, the resulting average voltage will be higher, but unstable. This will cause the hum and noise you hear on your amp.

yoyo guys! thanks.... okay i think i go invest in something more ex and reliable! dont want a mini explosion at my feet! haha

nah no explosions, only silent mushroom clouds if you use the wrong adapter with goose's pedasl.....

he's got a secret circuit board that sense, "DAMMIT NEWSTAR JUICE! YOU DIEEEEE!!!!"
