Newbie to the electric guitar world..

You can get a ltd 50-series at $380 from Davis. I have a LTD Viper myself and I must say it is pretty good. Can last you from beginnger to intermediate stage. It sound pretty good with distortion. But take note of its heavy body and neck diving tendency.

The craftman at Citymusic are also pretty good for its price.

My final advice is: You really have to go down and try them for yourself.

So u mean high price doesnt guarantee gd quality rite?

high price doesnt guarantee good quality. but doesnt mean that expensive products r no good. imo, half the time, high priced items r of better quality than low priced items. the question is: how much better? is it worth the extra bucks more?

i m no expert in guitars, in fact i think that my knowledge of qualities of guitars is quite superficial. but after trying close to 30+ low end guitars (just low end guitars, i havent even touch the mid range and high end ones), u can tell that some r better, while some r not that good, at least from the superficial level. from there, u can sorta have an impression what is worth the buy and wht is not.

my opinion is to try some of the package offered by citymusic as suggested by Hideto, and not forgetting the low end hamer guitars. i think hamers r 'worth every cent u pay for' guitars. no idea y is it that softies here dont appear to be too interested in hamers.

I did go search for guitars at peninsula area.. I jus wanna get more info so i can REALLY get the right 1st electric guitar.. I'd actually salute the way u shop for guitars.. I may not have tat much courage to do tat frankly.. And umm.. yeah, i'll go check out the hamer guitars u tok abt.. Thanx lotz.

initially, i was embarrassed to try guitars at guitar shops also. so many pros around, many shredding and sweeping the guitars like nobody business. once i saw chen weilian (the bllind project superstar winner) at swee lee, and boy i was so surprised that he could shred as well. i glued my eyes to the fretboard most of the time, yet i still can play wrong notes, but this guy can shred w/o looking. but u cannot be discouraged from trying becoz of the people around u.

wht i did the first time was to bring a more lao jiao player along with me. ask him to help me to choose, try the guitars and just give morale support, so i didnt feel so embarrassed. after a 3 times, i overcame the shyness and just visit guitar shops on my own.

oh, and i suggest second hand guitars for ur kind of budget.

true... its also not how its quality is... is veri subjective... i have strat.. super strat... but nv had a les paul.... not saying its bad... cos.. i dont feel right just playing a les paul... and gio and rg price range have veri slight difference... should go for a rg... the stock of a rg isnt tat bad as tat of a gio... gio have quite a numbers of flaws u will pick up as u play through time... as for RG... go for the rg321 or rgr321 as its fixed bridge... buying a floyd rose as a begginer will have u pulling most of ur hair out... but if u have the patience and interest in it. do go for one and u will nv regret.. :)

as for comparison of ltd and gio... i would go for ltd for its build... :).. tats my pt of view only... the guitar still lies in ur hands... do consider hard and try it throughly before buying...

Ok.. Thnx for ur views.. Quite enlightened.. Btw, i still dunno wads a Floyd Rose. Can u tel me wad it is?

Yeah.. In fact ther's really nth to b embarassed abt to me..

Wow!! Tat blind dude can shred? Tat's amazing man!! Bt i stil won't support him LOL!!

he shredded a little. i think only 2-3 bars he is not super pro or what, but can shred a short phrase. in comparison to him, i m ashamed of myself becoz some blind dude can do something better than myself w/o the advantage of looking at the fretboard. beginners like myself with half past six skills and being a slow learner will probably take forever to get there.

anyway, found ur guitar?

Floyd Rose is a locking guitar bridge:

floyd rose has alot of factors to take into consideration... while changing of string u will get used to it... takes me 5-10 mins to change all the strings so its ok....

the main factor tat ppl take into consideration is the tuning stability as some of the lower end has veri bad stability tat one small dive of it will cos ur strings to go out of tune... :)...

if it says 'Floyd Rose' there should be no tuning stability issues, if you are referring to the copies, then you must know which ones are more reliable.

tapping on ur guitar exp, which ones r in ur opinion, more reliable?

gotoh are the recent steal.not really cheap but realiable.you may wanna try schaller.freakingly stable but the price woo burns a huge hole in the wallet.

if you are buying ibanez guitars, the ones sporting these are recommended:

*Edge Pro/ Edge III/ Edge II
*Older models-Edge/ Lo-Pro Edge

note that these floating bridge models are the manufacturer's interpretation of the Floyd Rose unit, not a Floyd Rose per se.

if you are looking for replacement units, the Gotoh version is thumbs-up on grounds of tuning reliability + measurements to fit many contemporary guitars featuring cavities for this unit.

if it's this guitar, then yes:

the whammy bridge is reliable tuning-wise but it could have been less stiff for better appeal...

i think... if i think i know what kind of distortion tone you want, no sub $200 amp will give u that kind of insane distortion, maybe line 6 spider comes close (i'm usin that at the moment) but pedals are still key... i believe, feel free to collect me.

and why not second hand? haha just feel free to ask to try before u buy

Actually, you can try the Marshall 15CDR if they still have it, it gives you enough distortion at a cheap price. Well enough for about Luna Sea/X Japan level la. Not for DEG or headbanging crunch stuff. The clean doesn't sound too great though. Haven't had experience with the line 6 spider, but this little shop at park lane was selling it for just 180. If not then use distortion pedals lo. but that costs like 200 so with 400 you can buy a 30 watt amp alr...
