Need help on selection of pickups

hey guys,

my main influences are Hendrix, SRV and EC

i plan to upgrade my pickups soon..any idea on which ones would help me achieve that distinctive blues sound?

cheers!

Talking of pickups, I have never changed out a stock pickup on any of my guitars, but am considering doing it now.

Do all humbuckers for example have standard screw spacing, so if I take out one, i can be assured that any other humbucker will fit in the space without redrilling? I guess this is probably not true... :(

yeah can. except EMGs. emg need to dig an extra compartment for the batteries. thin guitars like SG abit impossible. my friend wanted to change to EMG bt cannot..

so he changed to a SD invader or something instead.

So sorry to hijack this thread can people also give recommendations for a replacement humbucker pickup with estimated costs also? Thanks. I have a Les Paul Pee Wee that has a useless pickup that I want to swap out for something decent but not too high-end.

Cheers

pee wee....how about EMGs? lol...
sure rock to death...

for EMGs they need to install a battery compartment either inside or outside.
they can route an external compartment at extra cost of course.
if it's inside, your guitar body need to have sufficient space for it. Thin guitars usually cant install the battery internally.

Les Paul Pee Wee?
Also for the bridge or neck?

Only one pickup. I want to hot-rod that little fella :)

Won't be doing any routing or putting in active circuitry, so EMG not an option.

Not always, you can dump the battery inside the control cavity. Surround the batt with some foam and it'll work fine. A battery should more or less fit inside good, so there really isn't a need to route a batt compartment. Besides, on an average of a batt change per year, the hassle of removing the plate to change batts is quite a worthy trade off.

Dimarzio X2N, SD Invader  + EMG Afterburner.

hmm...luthermusic gave me feedback saying my SG isnt suitable for the battery inside the body. As the body is too thin. Even in the controls cavity. as the pots have taken up a lot of space

Hmm, open the cavity and try to see if a 9v will go in and slap the plate back on. If it can squeeze in there, chances are it'll work.

Back to original post: =p

Kinman makes pretty good noiseless vintage single coils I've heard, but you probably have to order direct or something. + I dunno how it'll fit into your SSH config and they're quite pricy.

If you want a bridge hum, the Seymour Duncan JB's are quite popular. But for classic blues sort of tone you'd probably want 3 single coils. Fender Texas Specials have that aggresive fat overwound sound which is supposedly based on the pickups SRV used. Maybe a SD Pearly Gates for a bridge hum, similar to Fender's discontinued Lonestar strats.
