Need Help on adjusting saddle height.

Alright im pretty much a newbie so pls guide me along. My guitar string jus snapped. Then i realised the saddle can easily be removed...and i know tt by raising the height of the saddle it will increase the action on my guitar right? But by how much shld i adjust? and how do i know if both sides are equal? Thanks

What guitar is it? What bridge is it?

Mine is a aria les paul copy. The bridge and saddle are the standard type i guess..same as those on les pauls.
