We are looking for an experienced senior level guitar technician to join our regional team. The role is based in Singapore at one of our flagship retail stores and will be focused on delivering the best possible customer service for the musical instrument repair industry.
We are looking for someone who is self-driven, passionate and very organized. We want somebody who matches our spirit and desire and to keep challenging ourselves to push to be the best in the industry. Someone who will also be excited by taking on a challenge of delivering the best possible service in line with the musical needs of our customers
If this sounds like you, please read on!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- You will test, inspect and repair acoustic and electric guitars
- You will evaluate damaged guitars to determine whether fixing them is cost effective
- You will maintain, clean and do set ups of new and used electric and acoustic guitars
- You will build parts and troubleshoot electronics as part of your repair responsibilities
- You will also be responsible to train our in-house junior QC associates
- You will be able to ensure the string height of the guitars is set properly, modifying ("dressing") the height and arc of the frets, verifying the intonation of the instruments (which is adjusted by modifying the bridge)
- You will be a "jack of all trades" when it comes to making simple repairs. As such, you can resolder a loose wiring connection inside a guitar volume potentiometer, replace an amplifier tube, swap out a damaged speaker for a new one, stick a loose wooden part on an acoustic guitar, or adjust a misaligned neck with an allen key.
- You will be familiar setting up and tuning guitars and making simple adjustments and repairs, as well as set up, repair, and adjust electronic effects, tuners, pre-amplifiers, amplifiers, and pedalboards. To do these tasks, you must know about a range of audio engineering and electronics concepts—such as impedance, signal phase (for speakers and microphone wiring), and input voltage for pre-amps and effects. You will know how to use a soldering iron and a multitester, and how to do basic electronics troubleshooting.
- You will have an ear for music, and for musical tones and sounds.
- You will be responsible to operate our Plek machine which is a great recent device that uses computer control to evaluate a neck, set the truss rod, level the frets, and cut the nut slots
Requirements
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of repairing musical instruments, particularly guitars
- You are passionate about musical instruments, and music in general + play guitar
- You are proactive, responsive, responsible and ready to go beyond the call of duty
- You are a TEAM player – there is no “I” in TEAM
- You are detail oriented – “the little things always matter”
- You have an ability to diagnose and fix problems
- You are customer focused, a solid communicator with great people skills
- You can work within an established, structured system
- You will pass a test with our in-house Luthier to demonstrate your capabilities
- You will have a certificate from a technical school or one year of experience
