Name the best albums you've heard in the last 2 to 3 years.

Racer X - Technical Difficulties
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
Metallica - Garage, Inc.
Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
AC/DC - Highway to Hell

Opeth - Ghost Reveries
In my opinion, I believe this is the best album from Opeth. Its direction was totally different from Blackwater Park. The composition, the arrangement and the brutality of the music totally blew me off. Furthermore, it was the first metal CD I bought for myself. Never regretted. :D

Dissection - Reinkaos
Although this album is totally different from my favourite Somberlain era, the guitar riffs in this album are damn catchy. In my opinion, this album really redefined the meaning of melodic death metal.

Watain - Sworn To The Dark
It's one of my favourite black metal albums to date. It's a superb album and the composition is awesome. It reminded me of Naglfar's Sheol.

Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
I think many people will disagree with me but I think this album should be given its credits. The drumming in this album is fantastic (c'mon, it's Hellhammer!) and I like the concept of the album.

Equilibrium - Sagas
This album was a total mix of folk music, symphonic music and black metal. I chanced upon this album by accident and I totally like the distinct German folk elements in their music. It was really refreshing and no doubt, worth the buy.

Melechesh - Emissaries
I think I don't have to say much about this album. :D Fantastic from the first to the last track.

Thorngoth - Thelema of Destruction
This is another black metal gem I uncovered while in Inokki. It was a German band and thier playing style reminded me of Dark Funeral although Thorngoth has a rawer tone and feels more like a European band.

Other credible albums include:
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Kreator - Hordes of Chaos
Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao
Limbonic Art - Legacy of Evil

There are few favs but this band just blows me away album after album.

Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
Darkest Hour - The Eternal Return

Underrated band, awesome, awesome riffs, superb solos, sweep, tight drumming, awesome raspy vocals, just the way I like it.

Not sure about the year but many metal albums I like. Here some list that perhaps not many aware :

Brother Firetribe - Heart Full of Fire
project of Nightwish's guitarist, total AOR feel with nice keyboard layering.

Place Vendome - Place Vendome
Michael Kiske's project.

Avantasia - The Scarecrow
Tobias Sammet's

Circus Maximus - 1st Chapter
Prog band

Metal Church - This Present Wasteland
of course not as classic as The Dark, but still excellent.

Stryper - Murder by Pride
latest from this Christian Metal band.

and the rest is "standard" like Megadeth's , DT's, Helloween's, or maybe Metallica also.

in no particular order of preference...

united abominations - megadeth
very melodic. wasnt really a megadeth fan till i had this album :D

blooddrunk - children of bodom
fast pace, not too technical, and some spoofy downright funny songs

wanted to include dance of death by iron maiden but then it was too far back haha. but thats pretty much it, other albums i have only have a couple of nice songs and the rest that didnt fit my taste :(

1. Joe Bonamassa - The Ballad of John Henry

a very mature album, full of great songs and covers. a great blues album from one of the best contemporary blues artist.

really loving the reverb drenched guitar sound!

and deep lyrics as well

2. Mike Stern - Who Lets The Cats Out?

quirky jazz album from a guy who previously dwelled in rock and roll zone but changed direction (well, not totally) to something more groovy. a nice jazz fusion album with great guitar playing.

I liked the Muse albums. But didn't list then mainly because I only found a few songs I liked from each, and not the entire album.

me too.

few hidden gems in the albums that shine so bright you'll get blinded staring at them too long.

but not the entire album

Extreme - Pornograffitti
I just pulled this out of the closet after many years and I'm still loving it. Nuno's unique style and tone. A lot of groove and catchy riffs. Not the easiest of riffs to play but not impossible to play either. One of my guitars is tuned to Eb just to jam along to this album when i get stressed up after a hard days work. This album is what some modern rock music is lacking today....

John Mayer - Where the light is

This album showed the world that JM is not just another bubble gum pop idol. The dude can play the guitar pretty darn well. Very impressive for a guitarist/singer of today. The world's new answer to a MOJO artist/guitarist.

Led Zepplin - How The West Was Won
The band sounded different from their original studio recordings. I just love Jimmy page's tone.

Paul Gilbert - Silenced By A Deafening Roar
Sometimes i hate it when guitar virtuoso's try to get a go at singing. Good thing is that PG only does what he does best and did great on this album. All instrumental and very nice tracks. The debut of the fireman being used on his tracks. That single coil tone used to great effectiveness. Who says u need humbuckers to shred?

Underworld - 1992 - 2002
This one is a bit out of the box for a guitar player but i personally love these guys. The creative genius behind their music is brilliant. More than a decade of rocking trance and ambient music. There's only 1 electronic band i dig and i will highly recommend giving these guys a listen.

Dark Tranquility - Fiction
Wasn't really a melodic death metal fan till I listened to this album!

Alter Bridge - Blackbird
Much more technical then their last album. Still awesome, IMO.

Ramones - Mania
It's Ramones. Need I say more?

Lamb of God - Wrath
It's trashy, raw, unkempt, and bludgeoningly awesome!

Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing
Final awesome album from Jesse Leach! Howard has got power in his voice but Jesse bring the Death Metal vocals in the mix nicely
