My probs with TyMusic

I have heard the story from TY Music themselves. You are leaving out WAY too much information and making yourself look like all fault was with TY and you're the complete victim here.

Won't go into any details of the story since TY themselves will give their full length account and explanation.

You might as well strip yourself down now and butter up your ass cheeks. Cause the mob is gonna come with a really long stick and roast you.

I went to TyMusic at Peninsula/Excelsior to get my 87' Strat
Plus set-up. The guys know nuts about stuff. Because of a little fret buzz, they told
me my American Made strat's frets were uneven. I wasn't too sure. So I let them do
whatever work first. After collecting the guitar, nothing seemed different. I checked
with music theme and guitar connection. Both shops said the uneven frets was total
nonsense and a completely wrong analysis. TyMusic even misplaced my beloved guitar
strap. The young guys at TY don't know enough and should have gained more experienced
before setting up shop.

Dear Thread starter,

I am sorry we couldn't fix your guitar problem. Before we elaborate further, I think

it would be fair that we narrate the whole story here.

The story
**********
You had come to us with a strat to do 2 jobs. First, to replace the old screws on the
pickguard, pickup selector and pickup mounting screws.

Second, to perform a setup. You mention u had raise the action high because u get some
notes that don't ring out on the upper frets. After using a straight edge, we realize there are some uneven frets. The problem fret may have been caused by this and we don't perform fret
works. We suggest you to find another luthier to check as we can't help you.

However, u wanted us to proceed with the setup and u would do the fret work another
time. We said ok and we would try to do the setup as best as we can but we foresee there will still be some notes that don't ring out properly, and no fret works will be done. (written on service form).
You agree.

We charge you a fee for both services.

We completed Job1, which is changing of all the screws.
We tried our best to setup, but couldn't do it properly.
We find that some notes didn't ring out most obviously when we bend the strings. With the
straight edge, it tells us the fret uneveness contribute to this.

We finally try to obtain the optimum balance between notes ringing and action.

We took the time to sit down with you in the shop and explain to you that we
cannot setup the guitar to our standard. And thus, we are NOT going to charge
you for the setup. We minus off the setup fee from the original service charge.

You agree.

Then u told us there is a strap missing. We didn't argue on this because both parties are unsure.

You suggested we give you a cheap strap as a replacement. We agree. We gave you a GHS strap.

You accepted and agree.

The free strap was also written on the service form.
You signed on the service form, and left.

Our reply to you
*****************
Dear jonoh248 friend,

1) We had already told u clearly in the beginning to seek another luthier's help
because we foresee we cannot solve the problem.
However, since u wanted us to try, we tried. Theoretically, we spent our time and as
per the agreement, we can charge you the full amount.

Actually, we remember u tested the guitar and said it's quite ok.

But we thought we don't want to charge the setup since we didn't solve your problem.
Your thread sounds like you spent your money on setup and didn't get it fixed

We have to repeat here: We didn't charge you for setup, although we can as per
agreement.

2) Your guitar had all the screws changed as you wanted.
So "After collecting the guitar, nothing seemed different. " is a misleading statement

3) If you think our analysis is "total nonsense and a completely wrong analysis", we are sorry about this but there's nothing we can do about it to change ur view.

We are sure the 2 shops you mention wouldn't use these kind of harsh wordings even if
they have a different analysis.

We are not denying there may be other factors that have caused these notes not ringing out properly. And we are not denying that there are other guitar techs who can solve you problem better
than us because this is not our service area. In fact, we ask you to seek others help in the first place.

But uneven frets are what we have derived from the straight edge.

4) For the lost strap, you suggested, accepted and agreed to the GHS strap we replaced
for you. We don't understand why u started a thread here to complain about this?

To be fair, we think both parties were rather unsure if the strap was there in the
first place. But nevertheless, we replaced it for you as per your suggestion.

5) For once we agree with you, we are "young guys at TY"

******************

From the viewpoint of a guitar tech, we sincerely apologize we can't solve your guitar problem.

But we hope that you understand since we have come to an agreement mutually, regardless of whether it's on pricing, compensation or instrument condition, we have to adhere to it.

It's being unfair to us that you started this thread without the complete story because it may affect our business reputation.

TYMC

ps: Thank you to all the softies who have put their trust on us on this thread. We appreciate it.

Get your facts right first before proceeding to comment. Think before you act. The dude at TyMusic is so dedicated to customers. I have to stand for him on this. I don't understand why you would "de-fame" him or the shop. Think from the Shop-owner's point of view. They are all fighting for business so certainly if you were the dude from "Shop XYZ" , you would reply in a more or less negative manner and even further claim that you can do a better job.
P.S * You went to the shops after servicing your guitar at TyMusic. What were you thinking ? :/

Let this be a lesson learnt. Booomz.

just wanna put it out there that the Ty guys are amazing to do business with....very honest hardworking guys....theyve always sent me to other shops if they feel they cant do the job....

Looks like the story from TYMC is more convincing with the proof they hold. Besides, i have bought many cables from them and love their attitude in serving.

They have an excellent service and do not promise what they cannot deliver. I requested for some patch and speaker cables to be made at night but they told me they could not deliver the speaker cable today. I called in the following day and said i was coming to pick it up in the afternoon and they had it ready for me. :)

A wonderful experience with them for me.

TO TS: Please learn to tell the truth or show proof if you want to defame someone. If not, do not waste the bandwidth and time of everyone. Cheers.

After all my experiences with the guys at TYMC, there's one thing I'm completely sure about them that I've never been sure about any other musical instrument shop, is that they are completely honest. If there's something they can't do, they'll tell you clearly without fear of inferiority to other shops they can't do it. If there's information about a product they're unsure about, they won't lie to you about it, they'll tell you they don't know, and many times they'll also offer to help you find out.

Everytime I've dealt with them, their service has been excellent, even and especially their after-sales service. But even if many shops these days can have great service, the one thing that TYMC has that the other shops lack, is a whole lot of honesty.

Normally I'd read these complaint threads on Soft with a neutral take to it and never really bother replying. But after all my experiences with TYMC, and all my friends experiences with them, the moment I read that first post I found it hard to believe. Cos that's one shop I have a whole lot of trust in.

P.S. On a side note, yes it's probably about time your 87 Strat had a re-fret if you play it a lot, or at least a fret leveling if you don't play it much. Btw, I love the late 80s/early 90s strats! They're quite amazing compared to current ones.

Was shock to see this thread at home page. Have known CK for quite sometime now though i dont play guitar. He started off from just an online shop to having a shop front now. I have utmost confidence in their service and honesty. Anyway did I overlook, the thread starter seem to vanish. If he's really so piss, he should be following this thread. Will appreciate if he can come forward to at least clarify ya?

Chill guys, im sure everybody knows its some misunderstanding that's not properly spelt out by thread starter.

PS: CK is few years my senior and im in my 30's. If wanna call that young, im ok with it...WAHAHAHA...

TS,

Comparing TYMC, GC, and MT, you actually did the right thing to go to TYMC first...

You need to get your facts right about all the guitar shops man...

TYMC guys are good guys with a smile & I like their service a lot :) Anyway sometimes unexpected things happen & we all have to live with that... but can be corrected...& still life goes on...

this thread not bad actually
TS complain and whine but scroll up and look
nothing bad coming out from this...

this thread did not tarnish TYMC's rep but actually made it better.
shows you that a lot of people here have good relations with TYMC due to the fact that they provide good customer service. some guitar shops in town need to learn a thing or 2 about service from TYMC if i might add.

Humble beginings go a long way
:)

I was kinda shocked when I read the 1st post of this thread cos I knew at once, its pure nonsense.

I have nothing but full of praise for CK and Augustine, the most friendliest guys I've ever met. I had a custom guitar assembled by them before at a very delicious price that I can taste it. Just give them the parts and they'll do the rest. They would tell me things that can or cannot be done n that shows their honesty.

I usually buy my effects from them and they'll let me try out as much as I want w/o any hassle. Oh and their prices are reasonable too :)

Keep up the good work, guys :)

B4 I read the response from TYMC, it appears that everyone of you is overly critical of the TS and overly biased towards the TS. In my mind, I thought it was a big deal "if money was paid and I didnt get what I want, furthermore the vendor gave a wrong diagnosis of my guitar issue." I was concerned with this big deal, coz like many of you, I have a few great experiences at TYMC, and I was curious to know what exactly was going on at TYMC at that time, because it might affect my future decision to patronise TYMC ever again. It is encouragingto see many people standing up for TYMC so quickly, but taking sides quickly doesnt mean taking sides rationally. Even though TYMC enjoy great reputation in the past, doesnt mean they will not err. Erm... Toyota makes great car and had a great reputation too, no?

So I read this thread with much interest, and then TYMC spoke up. It now became rather clear that TYMC are still great people. Now, the air is cleared, and we can now shop/deal confidently with TYMC again.

There is one interesting thing I notice:

TYMC replied saying that uneven fret could be one of the factors leading to some notes not ringing out properly, and that there wasnt any fretwork being done, meaning that the uneven frets as claimed by TYMC is still there. But after approaching 2 other shops, the TS was informed that the uneven frets issue was total nonsense. So the questions are:

- Were the other 2 shops wrong in their diagnosis,
- or was TYMC wrong in their diagnosis?
- Assuming TYMC made a blunder, then what were the diagnosis from the other 2 shops?
- Or were the other 2 shops trying to taint the reputation of TYMC or etc etc...

This seems kinda dubious.
