my friend says bass is useless, how to explain?

Bass is important as guitar if not more, the jazz band I play with - due to budget constraint sometimes have only 3 pc line up which is : keyboards, bass & drums but no guitarist? Hey hey I lose $$ this type of gigs ...but in that context the bottom end meets the bottom line...

By right doe both instruments are equally important as are drums and keys. a basic 4 pc band with these four elements can go a long ways...

Chester,your friend should go to some established bass guitarist in singapore's gig amd pushing or tricking him up to the stage,challenge him to play what the bassist has done..you know time to "boo" and "laugh" at him..can he play bass first of all? I doubt he can at all. Haha!

starting out bass is defintly easier than most instruments, but seperating from beginners to pros is defintly one of the hardest among all instruments

imo,this kinda mindset cant be changed juz by telling him..he's gotta feel it himself..how much can u change his mindset by explaining?it may even make him belittle bassists even more...
