my friend says bass is useless, how to explain?

oohh, yup, tetsu from larc is definitely good, when i was first introduced this band from my fren back den, besides mezmerized by hyde's look, i was realli into tetsu bass run! not to forget billy sheehan. i played the guitar, however i saw him playing solo with paul gilbert in a video, straight away i tell myself his one person i need to remember, very good showmanship.
i think wad u need to do is not to tell ur fren anything,but to contionue on wad u believe on, and carry on with faith in yourself, one day ur fren will understand.(yo, Lppier, i did saw ur pic of tommy emmanuel, does thiese words sounds familar?haha i just trying to help gee, anyway if u do know any place in singapore can get any TE stuff pls do pm me thanks alot)
however, frankly speaking, even as a guitarist myself, it sucks to hear somebody actually said such words to a bass player.

Easy or not, the bass is the only instrument in the band that has the power to make people get up and shake booty.

with the same kind of ignorance i would say guitar is not important. why do some bands have 1, 2, 3 guitars and some don't even have any at all? some bands use keyboard or wind instruments instead. such an expendable instrument. how useless.

but luckily i'm not dumb enough to have seriously meant what i said.

hmm yeah, when i jam without my bassist, i feel that every song my band plays is very thin and hollow...

basic bass is easy to play.but i swear i can't play 25% of what my bassist can really do on his bass...

In terms of "band music", bass is definately a must as its the one that is providing the foundation of the music.

Tell ur guitarist that even his guitar has "bass" strings...

I understand your feeling chester, i give my bassist hell all the time ... But i do it cause he's the type of bassist who takes longer to learn a song than a guitarist does .... But to call the bass, useless? WTH .. i feel insulted eventhough im not a bassist ... I was thinking of picking it up, after hearing Rush ..
