mxr phase 90 vs evh phase 90 vs script phase 90

i've own this 2 at one go before. I personally prefers the evh phase90 alot better then the orange phase. The evh is much subtle and does not swirl as deep as the script. Also it's noticed to be brighter on the orange phase 90.. sounds piercing to me when it swirls up to the higher frequency.

Do check out the MXR 74' handwired version custom shop version too. I tried Edo83's one at Goose's house and i was completely blown away. It really sounds organic, subtle and sweet unlike the script and block logo versions. The swirling was also really lush and it blends in well with distortion...most phasers i find stick out like a sore thumb with distortion. Best part is that it is non-SMD, handwired with all the full-sized components visible so mods to it will be possible. I sold away my nano small stone, planning to place an order soon with tonefactor since i cant find it here so anyone who's interested can pm me and we can all save on shipping.

i like the mxr phase 90 ( orange ) but the volume peak does irritate me thus i put it before a compressor.

however I don't regret getting it.

Just try all the phase you can get your hands on!pick your favourite.

Yup...the one i tried was sent to Goose's place for a true bypass and power supply mod...the original could only be used on batteries.

Trust me...for the sake of tone....its worth going through that much trouble. unless you are looking for something over the top and non-organic sounding (then just get something digital, like the phaser on the Nova Modulator)

i want a more organic sounding phase. (: im actually considering the script vintage phase90. how much does it cost to get it true bypassed?

Hi guys, just to revive this thread abit, i am looking for a phaser and has yet to do so to replace my boss ph3 phase shifter (too unorganic to my liking but kinda versatile if u r into crazy phases).

Ized have ordered ur mxr custom shop script phaser yet or r u still looking for one? I am actually kinda torn between the custom script, retro sonic phaser, wounded paw P90 phaser or a byoc script phase (suppose to have it but tymc couldn't fix some parts problems thus it is a goner).

So people pls give me some good suggestions! Thanx!

Haha Mr Bukka not yet man! planning to get the 74 vintage handwired phase 90.

Hey bro i dun mind ordering together over at tone factor, but i do not know how to go abt doing it. Currently still deliberating.......u should take a look at the wounded paw p90 phaser, pretty interesting stuff and priced really nicely (base on the phase 90 circuit with NOS components, feedback switch depth control and true bypass, at just 1usd more than the 74 script phase) .......i bet that u will be getting the 74 script and "goose mod" it rite?? haha.

You sure you'll like the Phase 90?

Its swell with distortion but it might not be nice enough for cleans. It has a bit of break up in it, its a little dirty sounding - which is what gives it character - but that doesn't necessary work wonders on clean.

Also, if you run hot pickups in the future, then you could end up with a nice overdrive box as the pickups push the phase 90 into more clipping.

Oh yeah that i know shredcow, but i thought this is just an inherent problem for the current dunlop reissue phase90 that i am not interested in, but not for their custom shop 74 script phase and their vintage block/script logo phase90 with their original non smd circuit with nicely paired FETs and NOS components.

Correct me if i am wrong shreddy, and thanx for ur suggestions.

I've tried Edo83's 74 Phase 90 and it was nothing short of jaw dropping, at least which tone was concerned. Even Goose himself said it was a really nice phaser, true to the actual 74 specs and the components were full sized not SMD so it can be modded.

Only mod that needs to be done to it is a true bypass mod. I don need it do any fancy stuff whatsoever cos i already have my copilot gyroscope for that.

Mr Bukka, can ah. shipping from tonefactor only 20 USD leh!

Well, the 74 is supposed to have increased headroom - go for it then.

I don't necessarily think that less/more headroom is bad/good. Its really up to the flavour you prefer. Besides, you can run a phase 90 @ 12v for loads more headroom... and I didn't like that setup because it lost that nice swirly mush that a phase 90 has.

You can check out more clips of it online anyway - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNCxWCjbxqs&feature=related is a comparison video.

U got a copilot gyroscope!! Woohoo that's nice! Actually i am deliberating whether i need a phaser with more functions like the retro sonic phaser, or just a simple but great phaser like the mxr script phaser. Cause the prices r quite different imo.......a good $70 difference.

You can modify a stock phase 90 with the controls that are on the retrosonic.

I had a retrosonic for a bit - it didn't stay, compared to my BYOC (yeah, its a BYOC) Script Phaser. I THINK... can't really remember... that the retrosonic sounded a bit thinner than the BYOC. Between selling and keeping, the Retrosonic went off.

Ah i see.....i was suppose have my byoc script phase, but there were problems with the components that tymc couldn't fix, so i kinda scrap the idea since i have to wait a damn long time for the next shipment to arrive.

I was kinda interested in the retro sonic that tymc also carries but the asking price is just too much.......heard mixed reviews abt the retro sonic being nice sounding and verssatile but had quality and built issues......thus i guess i am kinda affixed on the mxr 74 script phase that has really really nice phase tone.......although i do lament the lack of extra controls such as volume and depth, true bypass, external dc plug and led.......
