uhhh so i just realised that a very muted sound is produced when i play my high e string at the 18th fret... can't be the pickups cuz its the same when i play it without amp... could it be the fret? :O

try looking at the fret from the side to see if its uneven compared to the other frets? if its not, try looking at the whole length of the neck from the bridge of the guitar see whether its crooked? if not then last resort is visit guitar shops to have them look at it~

hmmm ok thanks a lot for the reply, much appreciated :D:D

can't seem to find any problem in areas where u mentioned, so gotta bring it down to check soon.. :S

yeah you should get it checked. in any case it's not something that can be dealt with a simple twist from a screwdriver. maybe that portion of the neck is out of shape but judging from your description, I guess a little fret levelling should do the trick.

yep its prob an uneven fret...take a metal ruler or anything straight and put it against the fret and the frets before. if the ruler is able to move that means the frets are uneven

I beg to differ. the height of the fret might be due to the wood being out of shape. I mean true that it'd cause the fret to be uneven but levelling that fret itself would not be the best way to solve that problem. many possibilities to this problem.

in a case when you have confirmed that your fret is not levelled, what's next? hitting it in with a hammer? sanding it down? replace the entire fret? end of the day, you'd still have to head to a guitar store to get it solved.

nah no worries, I wasn't angry or anything. I just didn't want anyone to get any ideas to worsen the already bad situation because a dead spot is not an easy thing to solve for the unexperienced.
