Music programming software for windows

Sorry. Missed your post somehow.

First, a little of what is happening here. You midi signal goes from your PC to your korg. But the same midi signals is also going into your sound canvas. If they are sharing the same midi channels, you'll get both your korg and roland sounding at the same time. I don't understand what you meant by "midi out from korg into audio interface". Midi doesn't interface with audio. Perhaps you meant M-audio MIDI INTERFACE?

There are 2 simple ways to go about this:

1. Make sure your connection is correct (M-audio midi out -> korg midi in, korg midi thru->roland midi in). You'll need to create templates or combo (or whatever they are called in your korg and soundcanvas). Make sure that they DO NOT share the same midi channels (eg korg patches midi channels 1-8, soundcanvas patches midi channels 9-16). Make sure each seqeunce track of your DAW triggers the appropriate midi channels.

2. Is your Midi interface at least a 2x2? If it is, then the simplest method is: midi interface midi out 1 -> Korg midi in, midi interface midi out 2 -> roland midi in. Your DAW should see 2 midi interfaces which you can select - one triggers korg and the other triggers roland. You should have 16 channels for korg and 16 channels for roland.

It sounds like your midi connection is wrong.

Oops. Missed out one more important connection.

Korg midi out->PC midi interface midi in. Make sure your korg's local is turned off. You're set.

Sorry if I sounded rude in my earlier post. Cos I've been in this fix for quite a while. Thank God for ppl like you, Cheez =)
Anyway, mine is a 1x1 midi interface, so the first one is the option for me. Are you referring to the environment for Korg with regards to the creating templates part? I got that already. However, I'm not sure how to make sure that the sound canvas and the korg do not mix together in the same channel.
Also, from the looks of it, does the sound canvas play a role in the set-up? Cos I don't intend to use its sounds anymore as my korg sounds are better. So is it still necessary?

Thanks a lot, dude!!

If you don't need the sound from the soundcanvas, just remove it from your setup. Then you don't need to worry anymore about it!

So.... final connection:

Korg midi out -> PC midi in
PC midi out -> Korg midi in
Turn off Korg's local

However, I would still recommend you try to connect the soundcanvas - if you have the time. Just for learning midi setups. :D To make sure they are not the same channels, the template in the soundcanvas and the korg should be different as I explained before. There are 16 channels. Whichever channels you pick for the korg, don't pick those for the soundcanvas (leave them empty), and vice versa. Remember to use midi thru from your korg to soundcanvas.

If you're looking for simplicity try getting the LE versions of any of the big names out there like Pro Tools, SONAR, Ableton, Cubase, Reason, etc. If any. However I would recommend getting Cakewalk's Music Creator 4 for you. Its very cheap but too limited for me.
