Music made in Singapore

I knew how the music scene roughly came about, from a friend who's had a band(band's name: EXQUERIES) during the 70's.
Now, he's still grovving with his very own band (form in the 90's) : Retro Groove.
Yes, the 2nd runner up of the Power Jam 2007.

Now,if u know his band Retro Groove, u probably guess it's Dan the guitarist repairman in Peninsula level 4.

Alrite, do visit the shop and ask him questions on the past music scene in singapore.Who knows, u might learn a thing frm him. :)

Btw, I would like to state a fact that during the 70's, Wilson David was named as Singapore's Elvis by the brit.
The guy himself happen to see me at Dan's guitar shop and told me abt himself.

About 赤樂團

赤樂團 went through several incarnations since 2005 before its current final line up since 2008.

The latest addition of Taipei born drummer Milk sparked off a unprecedented chemistry among the band. The band has since accumulated a wealth of gigs under their belt.(Super band, Sentosa, Home club, MDIS, H.G M pub, Raffles Hotel)

Influences:

Drawing its influences from classics of the 80s to modern rock, 赤樂團 has been striving to reproduce the best sounds of the classics in a modern way.

Headed by band leader Hei Long, and song writer Kenny, the band has since reinvented their covers from the likes of classic pioneers like Beyond, SH!N, 迪克牛仔, Bon Jovi and even canto dance classics from Sammi Cheng.

Today, the band is determined to make their sonic melodies heard in our dwindling , semi-existing" chinese rock scene". Shadows of X Japan ,Y.Malmsteen and Scorpions and a strong 80s AOR flavor is a distinctive trait of the band's sound.

Current Status:

Eager to self-produce their own upcoming album, 赤樂團 is hard at work sculpting their latest demo tracks guaranteed to blast your ears to rock kingdom.

Singaporean Music

I think Tanya Chua is a great singer... she sings in tune and has that tonality in her voice that I've set in my mind as the "standard" that represents the Singaporean talent. I seriously can't think of anything on a negative note about her singing and her music.

Here's a Singapore themed mixtape. Its nothing commercial not too mainstream but captures Singapore's culture in own perspective through metaphors and wordplay. :-D

aCQUIRED tASTE mIXTAPE [pROTOTYPE] is asian rapper Kwizyne Rhema's extended demotape. This compilation exhibits lyricism over instrumentals of commercial/underground hits and misses. aCQUIRED tASTE mIXTAPE [pROTOTYPE] contains 21 tracks including collaborations with other lyricists who are for him to know and for you to find out. It is labelled as his signature style of writing rhymes: consistently dropping wordplay and punchlines with references of Singapore lifestyle and media in a foreigner's perspective. As reflected through songs like Old Changi Hospital, Stoic Boy, Yusof Bin Ishak and many more.

Etc :: April Fooling

New Etc vérité recordings have been added to their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/abcdetc
or at this page:
http://www.last.fm/music/etc+etc/Etc+::+April+Fools+(2009)

What they're saying at http://www.walkonmusic.net/2009/05/ben-on-run.html is that it's a "A virtual EP, three live recordings, from local indie rockers Etc... your immediate listening pleasure... Highlight: 'Cupid Stunts / Love Is A Four-Letter Word (First take - ever)' (14:27), a post-spacey epic... Translation: All live. Completely sweat-and-spit real. No right-click fakery."

Not to be confused w/ their 'proper' recordings (work in progress). All audible phasing is natural. Not all the reverb is. They couldn't find a hall that big.

Hi guys. I've been trying to search everywhere for music of the 70s in Singapore. On youtube, I only managed to find 60s music. On other websites, 60s. This forum, no 70s.

Does anyone know any local music of the 70s? I posted here because it's also part of music made in Singapore and I figured why not.

Thanks!

In the 70s, the rock influence of American& British bands were pretty heavy. So we did have tons of bands like now but they were more into imitating bands like Deep Purple, Led Zep etc.

It was a 'covers' era to put it loosely.
