Music made in Singapore

Check CRADLE out at www.myspace.com/cradle7. they just released their album Ceritera Awan a couple of weeks ago, I think.. I bought their cd last week. man, they are good! brilliant original songs and talented guys! worth my money!

their guitarist Addy Rasidi is endorsed by DiMarzio and Ibanez, local Singaporean. (Addy did us Singaporeans proud, man!) he came up with most of the songs in that album. their lead singer Man Toyak is one hell of a rock singer. I've seen them perform live, they are good. don't dispute me until u've checked them out, seriously..

A bit of retro...

The name of the band is Do Not Ask. They were the first band to be signed by a major label back in those days. You could say that they were among the pioneers in mainstream local music and paved the way for others to come forward at that time. After they broke up, some members went on to form Radioactive.

If anybody still have their CD please let me know. I lost mine when I moved house some years back, and it's no longer in print.

Our music history goes all the way back to the 50's.

So if we wanna dig we have to do justice to all those who pioneered the scene against all odds in those days of drugs and flower people. Have you guys heard of The Flamingos, the Bambinos, The Tid Bits, The Sundowners, The Crescendos, The Quests, The Trailers, Naomi and the Boys, The Thunderbirds, Rita Chao, Sakura, Julie Sudiro, Anita Sarawak, Rahima Rahim, The Stylers, The Flybaits, The Checkmates, The Moonglows, ...............? All are local bred who are recording artistes in their own right and they have paved the way for us today. Some of them have been enshrined in our National Archives and in our Encyclopaedia. Do try and check it out if your are interested.

I know coz I am from that era and still very much in the music as a lifelong hobby.

Anyone else coming from there and then? Would like to hear from you.

how could we forget

1. Ronin (now vocalist-less though)
2. Electrico ( don't know where they are now)
3. Pug Jelly (de-funct?)
4. The Observatory (like 3 albums already?)
5. Plainsunset (they are great! though age is catching up)
6. Fishtank ( The infamous "we are soo not simple plan wannabe's")
7. Great Spy Experiment (our very own indie darlings)

Humpback Oak

My fav band:
Humpback Oak -- Pain Stained Morning
Humpback Oak -- Side A Side B

Observatory (not sure what they're up to now)

Lunarin -- Chysalysis

Electrico -- Hip City, So Much More Inside (obviously everyone knows them ;)

Tanya Chua -- Bored

Leeson -- Hero (not a well known cd but it's pretty decent indie music)

Leftover -- Extended Play. (may still be available at Earshot)

Rudra (not sure there album names, can prob check with BlackIsle Studios)

Truth is, I'm not much of a listener to local bands... Not really open to them. But I was impressed by Bhelliom. Probably, it's because of the kinda music that gets me high! Singapore's very own Melodic Death Metal band. Awesome!

If you want to know the history of singapore's oldest band

During the 70's, Singapore had some music scene happening in British Club.
It all started with people perfoming some of the well know hit songs frm Elvis, Tom Jones and so forth.
The British was so impressed and decided to engage all musicians in singapore to perform covers of well known songs.
In retrospect, the encouragement of free stage by the british actually help to nuture the bands to perform more and gain popularity among the heartlanders!
All thanks to the Brit!

I knew how the music scene roughly came about, from a friend who's had a band(band's name: EXQUERIES) during the 70's.
Now, he's still grovving with his very own band (form in the 90's) : Retro Groove.
Yes, the 2nd runner up of the Power Jam 2007.

Now,if u know his band Retro Groove, u probably guess it's Dan the guitarist repairman in Peninsula level 4.

Alrite, do visit the shop and ask him questions on the past music scene in singapore.Who knows, u might learn a thing frm him. :)

Btw, I would like to state a fact that during the 70's, Wilson David was named as Singapore's Elvis by the brit.
The guy himself happen to see me at Dan's guitar shop and told me abt himself.

To all teens out there, I'm just 17 only.
I've a deep passion for making the 70's and 80's music a comeback.
Don't get me wrong, 70's 80's music is not swing music in 50's & 60's.
70's and 80's is glam rock! Rock that is classic and really rock.
During tad period, true punks arise too because of anarchy and revolution.
Punk bands I'll recommend: Sex Pistol and New York Dolls.

Last of all, if u listen to the 80's music alot and who knows how to play electric guitar/ drums/keyboard , pls notify me.
I want to form a glam rock band and making vintage genre/songs a comback.
I'll cross my fingers ;-)

Local music, local bands? check out Jive Talkin' a veteran band they play at the pump room i think on sundays. They are seriously good. They're as good as Singapore bands can get man. Eddy Cradle plays for them too.
