Modulations! Assistance needed

Hello everyone.. I'm considering a one size fits all modulations pedal.. Wanna downsize my board, so I just want ONE modulation pedal to do everything..

Currently very happy with my Ibanez FL-301DX, a flanger which I set to make a chorus kinda sound at times (though it is not authentic sounding).. I kinda miss my old chorus (rocktron tsunami) and tremolo (ibanez TL-5).. I don't use modulations often, more of a drive kinda person.. Just once in a while, I wouldn't mind having one of these on the board!

I currently have 3 pedals in mind, any pros and cons on these?
I don't want them to sound too fake (but I believe multi-effects have great modulations, so these two should fall in line quite nicely)..
Are there any other suggestions?

Here are the two:

The Eventide may be too expensive.. Thanks people!

Prices are:
$380, $450 and $665 respectively taken off the Ebenex webbie.. Price is an issue as well.. T_T

the answer is in you

1) price is an issue as well(since you have already stated it and also the prices)

2) Which modulations do you use most

3) Between $380 and $450, the $60 can be considered insignificant. And if its significant and price is an issue, the answer is clear. If cant decide, go back to option 2)

4) Space on your pedalboard, condusive for the mm4 or nova? Tightspace, go nova, got space, go mm4 and since mm4 is cheaper.

5) mm4 can be powered using onespot(if you are using) while nova using 12vdc. So if power strip space is a concern. Then you know which one to go.

6) You want to tweak until cow come home or want to plug in, turn few knobs, set an play? Again, if you know yourself, the answer, is clear again

lastly) go with what you want and make the best out of it. We, the rest are just distraction

Lol.. Line 6 no longer has those issues right? Those persistent DL-4 issues?

Price btw Nova and MM-4 ain't a diff, just wondering about the performance of either.. Their sound actually.. Cause I've never had the luxury of trying either..

Thanks for your help!

having owned the modfactor, i can vouch for the quality of its effects. it's everything i thought it would be, and the number of different sounds you can get far surpasses the nova or the MM4. the sounds are tweakable to such an extent that it may actually be rather overwhelming, so that's kind of a double-edged sword, but if you're the kind who has this sound in your head that you want to nail the eventide is a great choice. can't compare it to the nova or the MM4 though, haven't tried either.

i cant help in about the sound. Modulation to me are all different and nothing is bad. Got right context, plastic sounding modulation also can be king.

hmm, dont think i came across much mentioning bout volume drop on mm4 though. Its still of a dl4 thingy more than other modeller issues if not wrong.

oh, another thing to consider, you wanna a 2001 technology or 2007/8 technology..

imagine pedals technology is like handphone technology

Lol.. I won't know about that.. Leaning against a Nova at the moment since it is smaller, and that "dual" engine thingy and being able to have two effects on at the same time per patch..

As for the Modfactor, it seems like a tad bit too much actually.. I like my pedals simple.. The lesser the knobs, the better.. No mojo? It's ok.. The bouncing TU-2 lights is mojo enough!

my vote is for MM4 cos I own one and I like the sounds. I'd say the same too about DL4 and that purple FM4. Dislike the DM4 quite a bit.

No comments about the rest.

the Nova looks sweet....TC electronic makes really nice stuff....

I would rather go anarog though....hehe...cos i know what sounds i want....

Me too.. A flanger has sufficed long enough.. But I do miss my tremolo and chorus at times.. And it makes no sense in having too many pedals on the board!

I managed to talk to my bandmate.. Apparently he managed to try both the Nova and MM-4.. He finds that they do not sound authentic.. And I usually have the same views as him (except when it comes to drives)..

What I like about the MM-4:
4 footswitches, obviously makes it easy to cycle through presets
Seems easy to tweak
More effects (including a rotary speaker)
Easiest to switch between presets

What I like about the Nova:
Seems easy to tweak as well
Size
Able to use 2 presets at once (eg. tremolo into flanger or flanger into tremolo)
Tap tempo
5 more presets compared to the MM-4

heh, may i ask, authentic to what?

both are digital, one a modeller, the other, prolly a hi fidelity sounding pedal, can be hard if having to compare to other pedals.

imho, if modulation aint really the main focus of your playing, perhaps can decide according to budget, space on pedalboard and whether needing extra adaptor or shared supply.

sounding digital perhaps not a good comparison.

maybe can see it in a more simple way, does it sounds good to you?

unless you can visualise on how you can utilise most of the features of those pedals(thus able to make decision), if not, do try out the pedals in shop and see which one sounds good to you(based on the few modulation which you will most likely use) for a start.

imho

hehe, within the context of the thread, the choice seem clearer.

oh, if you do try out the mm4, do test for the volume drop thingy. Theres different opinions among users. Some hear it some dont.

Authentic is a very STRONG word.

From a foodie's point of view, if someone says "this ramen does not taste authentic", did that someone even been to Japan to taste authentic ramen, since authentic japanese ramen should be from japan and nowhere else. or the someone's authentic reference is from another japanese ramen shop in sg which is in no way called authentic.

From a guitarists' point of view, those modellers are modelling long discontinued, rare, got money also cannot buy pedals. Who's to argue about authenticity? Its whether the user like it or not and whether it makes usable sounds.

Sorry for the oral vomit... authenticity of modellers just push me nipples the wrong way.
