Modded Epiphone Valve Junior Head

Well said ized that is the whole point about "modding", and if there isn't a "special touch of customisation" then might as well don't do it at all haha. KUDOS to goose who always pump out quality stuff that doesn't disappoint.

Looks like Epiphone has been paying attention to all the VJ mods:

Where'd you get that pic from? Is that a modded?

Wonder how the volume is wired ?!
If it's just a pot to ground before the output tube ... it's not gonna "disco" !

cheesy buggers la epi...

wouldnt buy an epi amp without an intention to mod it...even their bigger 50w heads suck. cheap components ruin the amp.

With mods, well thats another story. Dont expect to sound decent without though. Can bet they are still using that small cheapo transformer even with the "upgrades".

Hahaha i can vouch for that too......man those crappy output transformers are just utter tone killers!!! If anyone is getting a VJR or its siblings, pls change the OT FIRST!!! Actually the blackhearts r using sub standard OTs too, after changing mine to a hammond (all thanx to goose!) it just became a totally different animal, ized can be a proof of that!!! Of course the other mojo mods came into play as well, but pls be prepared to shell out at least another S$200 to make it sound good.

Btw if u pple out there who thinks that a 5watt head is wimpy......guess again, now with my blackheart through a 2X12 cab, i dun even go more than level 4 at 3 watts.......at 5 watts my windows r shaking......i guess this goes the same for faizal's VJR.

Well, well...Epiphone came up with their own upgraded line of vjrs. I have to agree with Ized and MrBukka, I suspect Epi might still b using low quality parts in the electronics. The heads no doubt look great and mouth watering on the outside but what about the inside? Tats another story..:P

Goose was right, my vjr needs to be played loud to experience the power hahaha..for me, with my cheapo Behringer DC9 compressor pedal (more like a clean boost) run thru it, I tweaked the controls on the vjr and could get a tone quite close to Eric Clapton's strat on the Derek & The Dominos album (Layla anyone? :P). He played thru a Fender Champ at that time. With my Epi Dot, can get a great vintage blues tone.

I think I need to get a proper clean boost pedal. Currently using a 1x12 epi cab with Eminence Red Fang, wonder if I should upgrade to a 2x12 and experience a better tone?

Oh yes u should bro!!! I feel that a 2X12 is really just nice, brings out the sound of the amp but not overpowering......btw i am using a ceriatone oversized 2X12 cab with celestion V30s, and it sounds really good.......but frm wat i have heard ur red fang is the bomb lah since so many experts including goose stick by it......i would really wanna try one in my cab and see how it sounds with a V30 when i have the $$$ to do so.

heh, i think it aint not rocket science to figure out that the manufacturer having to cut cost some where in the production of the amp to have it selling for so cheap.

I mean, just about 7 or 8 years ago, before some of the people in here actually playing with tone, there wasnt must toob amp in local market thats below 1k sgd.

the cheapest one round there also be around $800 to $900 plus and thats just a 1x12 combo or so.

New video up of me playing an Epiphone Dot thru the VJ head. The VJ is in the sun mode (more gain),gain level at 3 o clock while I have my Behringer compressor and Modtone Dyno Drive overdrive to push the VJ's overdrive further. I'm playing The Who's Summertime Blues song, the one from Live At Leeds :)

I agree...but then you gotta look at the new AC4 man....cheap and good...300 bucks and it takes pedals well. Celestion speaker and premium transformer too.

ooo...

you using dana's vvr circuit?

don't know if it can be installed into my 100watt 2203, toreplace the PPIMV i have inside it now.

Wahaha Larry Amps is the bomb!!! Too bad it is too expensive for commoners like us......sad but true......haiz
