well we arn't in Finland. we dont speak suomi. back there it's culture. it's cradle of metal. here it is just music.

Dun say Finland. The whole of Scandinavia is addicted to metal. It seems like its culture there. Also, most of the metal bands are from there (Mayhem,The Sentenced,La Cremosa, Sonata Arctica etc etc.). Its basically a culture and the whole metal thing now is spreading towards Western Europe.

Basically, the whole of northern Europe are now addicted to metal.

But making metal mainstream its like killing the genre. Metal can never be mainstream or else one day u will hear of pop metal, emo metal... Juz like punk rock.....

i dunno what you guys think..but i feel that when some music genre starts goin to mainstream...den that particular genre will start to change..to cater to the need of the mainstream audience...can be gd or can be bad at the same time...its all up to u to decide...

personally...im rather happy with where metal stands now...most of the good old metal bands r still producing quality music...so jus let it stay tt way...

I wonder... we all complain about the audience stiff yadda yadda... granted, its all in the culture of Singaporeans... .

But the thing abt jazz is that in Singapore jazz seems to pander to the classy/high income crowd, with shows in the esplanade and stuff. Jazz seems to be the bigband kind, and any show is some big event.

The street/club jazz culture here is totally non-existant. Techno/hiphop is the club music(haHA) of Singapore, and only very few venues have live jazz. In other countries, jazz clubs are all the rage. Must be our high land prices.

Also how often do you see small jazz bands playing on orchard road? But the emo bands on the other hand proliferate airwaves/win competitions/have gigs in the open everywhere. This shows the immaturity of the singaporean mindset la, only wanting easy listening and the image. Without lyrics suddenly cannot function.

Jazz has the problem of being marketed as sophisticated music for sophisticated people in Singapore. :wink:

And metal, well the sort of metal you're talking about, is music for the marginalised and is meant to be subversive in nature. The day it becomes top 40 music acceptable is the day it becomes pop rock.

But the problem is when you are unable to appreciate anything more than the easy listening, and look down on stuff that isn't readily acceptable.

I too, like some easy listening once in a while. And chances are the songs that I like have some form of poppish-rockish melodic quality to it, even in metal.

SLIPKNOT is one of the worse bands ever to play in singapore.they r real posers-9ppl ,ugly masks,3 drummers,2 audio techs!
SINGAPORE should encourage better music!Seriously they should promote better metal bands such as korn,deftones,tool(progressive rock),disturbed,mudvayne,pantera,static-x,dope!nowonder there were a lot of disagreement when slipknot came to singapore-corey taylor cusses in every song!and i agree that slipknot produces only NOISE !
Slipknot,the noise polluting band is one of the worse metal acts ever!even SOAD(System of a down)is better than them!

what abt hip hop? through hip hop we can see that drugs, sex, womanising and being gangsta is alrite. girls can dress scantily too.. i dont think sg does anything to stop that. unfair isnt it? damn niggas.

but im quite happy with the metal scene here lah. eventhough the scene isnt big, there are new bands who want to perform. must understand, sg is small.

hey KornrockSlipknotballzoff, i guess you're just another nu metal freak, seriously, korn is a really stupid band, just take a look at twisted transistor, and compare that to slipknot, even though i'm not a fan of slipknot, i still think slipknot is a better band than korn, korn is just plain retarded. their old stuff was alright, but they've become stupid.

pantera? they're good but in case you didn't know, dimebag's dead, how do you expect them to come to singapore?

but i really would love it better if the underground bands(local) get better performance stages...coz they really worked their asses off...esp these metal bands...think ABOUT IT!!! FINGERS GET TIRED AFTER SHREDDING FOR 5 SONGS!!! MORE APPRECIATION FOR THEM PLEASE!!!!

at least close down all the small RCs and make them into performance halls...or whatever...i mean provide support for these bands...
