Hi, I am planning to buy an electronic drum kit and would like some advice and recommendations on which one to get.. My budget is around $2k. As an intermediate drummer, I'm looking for something that is not too basic but also don't need one that is very professional. Preferably a five-piece one, with 2 crash cymbals , 1 ride (with bell), and hihat. Thanks!

You must buy the speaker playing thru headphone is not nice at all.do not buy any type of speaker.Either a keyboard amp or drum amp.if you uses a guitar amp u get good cymbal sound but very lousy bass and a bass amp good bass but lousy cymbal sound

Playing through speaker or headphones is purely personal preference if you ask me.
I'm fine playing with headphones on my DTXplorer last time.
I'm still using the same headphones to hear my backing track while playing on my ACOUSTIC kit.

thanks for the advice, but I would prefer not to get a dtxplorer because I don't like the triangular cymbal pads.. will consider the dtx500 series.. or maybe the 700 series. But may I know, which brand of e-drum kits is better? Is the yamaha one considered the most affordable and best value for money? Thanks!

The Yamaha dtx 550 k is the best bang for the buck, Hi hat pads that are mounted with provided hi hat stands, 10 inch silicon pad, 13" inch 3 sensor crash and 15" 3 sensor ride cymbals for apprx $2500?
The roland td4k2 are going for around the same price if i am not wrong,

Hope that helps :)

Personally I use a Hart Dynamics Kit. But i think Roland has the best cymbals, and their higher end models have mesh pads which feel more realistic. I didn't like yamaha, because they sounded like a MIDI output drum machine (tried the higher end model at their PS store).
