Long hair for school going guys petition

Is there such a thing as a righteous world or American imperialism? Or is it something the Asian imperialists use to brainwash the world to do it's bidding?

In today's reality, freedom is something that is the ability to make a choice of what we want to do, without a 'big brother' guiding our hand with a whip. That is what keeps the American dream alive! Please watch Michelle Obama's talks.

Isn't fighting for what you believe in a great reason to live? Indeed, if I have to die, I would die fighting for what I believe in, it does not have to be a physical confrontation. I am a firm believer in the ways and methods of the American civil rights movement headed by Martin Luther King, did he spill blood? No. Clearly, you're looking at the uneducated people who do not know how to make informed decisions, again.

wa... this is quite dumb.. obviously the petition isn't gonna change anything..
short hair for guys in school had been around for years.. it isn't a new rule.. u can't change that..

its not like bus fare.. which keeps increasing..

I'm sure. I FOR ONE, BELIEVE THE WEST IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL OUR PROBLEMS AND WANT TO DESTROY IT EVEN IF IT KILLS ME!

mmhmm.

Just took bus with my friend just now, basket, it costs $1 for a student to take the bus if you pay cash. Or rather thats what the uncle told her to pay.

Okay, my take is that there is an image we must project. In fact, I do not believe that Singapore is the sole society which places emphasis on at least some degree of hygiene and looking presentable. And it's rather trivial IMO. It helps in the sense that you'd project a neater image which others may associate with being more capable, and we know that first impressions matter, not just in Singapore, but everywhere else.

So keeping long hair is not presentable? Give me a reason other than unfounded prejudices that should have been bunked along with racism. I for one, do not go further than 5km from my home, without a COLLARED shirt, that is PRESSED AND IRONED, buttoned up to the button just below the one under the button that only goes on if you're wearing a tie, when I wear a tie, It must be DEAD CENTER and PERFECT. Similarly, I will only wear long pants or for a casual situation, jeans, are you telling me that just because I keep long hair, I am unpresentable? Let me tell you that because of Singapore's climate, I shower 2-3 times a day, ensure that my hair does not look like a bird's nest, or a potential Mas Selamat hiding place.

meekahsoh: Lol you sound like a terrorist-to-be. Anyway, it is true that society does have its deep rules that once challenged will be deemed deviant, but right now, society's changing whether you like it or not. The outside world is changing, and if Singapore doesn't keep up, it's going to lag behind. Employers these days also demand more creativity than just rule-obeying. :)

bouncy: Damn! That's expensive... well it costs about $2 here for a 2-hour ticket (they measure it by time, which is silly because if you just need to take the bus a couple of stops, you're screwed haha).

It's the same even with ankle socks, I asked previously. It's the stigma, like there is one with ankle socks but that's a whole different point. Well, I'm free of all this haircutting shit till I enter NS next year. I'm already planing on migrating, well, I actually have, but yeah, NS. I used to feel so oppressed when I was in secondary school, I used to always try to argue my way through it, but it never seems to work.

The hair problem won't be revised, not in this recent years, but hey, maybe if you try hard enough? Good luck on it

wa.. hydrofly.. your English damn power ah.. i see u like typing lawyer letter sia.. hahaha.. confirm much more convincing than that guy..

I didn't say they were exclusive. Just that there's a need to look presentable. If you can look presentable with long hair, good for you, but you don't represent the entire population.

EDIT: No offense. But I do believe the Universal Declaration of Human Rights should be followed. If your beliefs do deny the rights of others, no matter how justified you think you are, society may just not accept it. There are some fundamental rules we have to follow.

But then again, the people with long hair who are not presentable also do not represent the entire population.

In reply to meekahsoh's edit: I just don't see how keeping guys' hair short is a fundamental rule. Keeping your clothes on in public is a fundamental rule, but hair restrictions?

Very nitpicking, we are getting. I am at fault here.

Besides, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_hair .

To quote:

"Culturally, long hair—particularly amongst men—typically signals the individual's separation from structures and rules,"

"For example, one passage in the New Testament of Christianity considers long hair shameful for men, while encouraging it for women."

I believe that since I can look presentable in long hair, anybody can, I for one, do not have OCD, therefore, my presentability is merely an issue with effort, I don't even mind a compromise where schools implement the same rules on girls' hair on guys.

=unholyernest

Years of arguing with teachers has taught me that being more widely read than them and being able to present my views in a coherent, grammatically correct way is a critical skill in convincing them not to send me to detention on the quality of my arguments.

Nitpicking further, I'll quote my teacher :" WIKIPEDIA?! MORGAN LEE I BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A CREDIBLE SOURCE OF INFORMATION!"

Wait wait wait, before you go into the religion thing, let me say first that we should not quote and accept what scripture says literally as there is always a context which the statement is being written in. Remember that some books of the Bible are really letters written from one party to another.

Haha, it's all in good fun love! =) This is actually helping me revise for my "Society & The Problem of Order" paper on Tuesday. Lol.

i am still thinking on wat is the purpose for the petition...

no offence la... i just find it very stupid.

Perhaps it would seem less stupid if the person who submitted the petition had properly substantiated and justified his arguments. If you're referring to the way he typed THAT petition, yes, it is very stupid indeed.
