JBJ - True Singaporean & Statesman Passed Away

I 1st saw JBJ many years ago as the road I was travelling in a bus on was blocked by overjoyed WP party supporters.

I have then seen & voted for the man when he ran for and when I lived in Cheng San.

I have seen the man selling his party's paper "40 cents for the hammer" JBJ used to bellow out just outside centrepoint.

I have seen him many other times in later years walking alone down North Bridge Road. Older and more frail but still with a look of "fire" in his eyes.

He has seen and walked too many roads, he deserves his rest.

big bro...

"he has seen and walked too many roads...deserves his rest"....

IMO..that is one classic tribute to JBJ..ada class bro..thumbs up !!!

To Blank : Read and understand what this forum is for in the first place. It's for us to discuss "About the scene and music in general". James is already letting us discuss stuff outside of the music scene. Go look around, so so so so many threads unrelated to music, but do you see him complaining? Isn't that good enough? And here you are complaining about not being able to speak our minds. Lighten up dude. If people were really allowed to speak their minds here, this music forum won't last 1 month! You wanna discuss about that letter? Go and start a thread and pray it does not get shut down.

As it was said, this thread is to pay our respects to JBJ, let's keep it that way. Cheers.

Let's be clear about how the government works.

There is a bus, a bus driver and some passengers.

The weather is bad and the road is kinda bumpy.

The bus driver struggles to drive safely.

After some time, one of the wheels starts behaving differently from the other 3 wheels for some reason nobody knows. It moves in the opposite direction and causes the bus to sway.

JBJ fought a long fight. Let's just give him the peace and remember him as a Singapore political figure.

James,

Quite frankly some of the reasons why people really dislike you at times as a online forummer is that you skirt the issue - you asked a question, an answer was provided, and then you mention this discussion is off the table.

I don't even know what you're driving at from your comment.

If you want to keep political+personal opinions out, just say it as such. It's a lot easier than your bus analogy. :P

well one or two wheels ok lah but if all four wheels the bus driver mite have to spend too much time mah thinking how to fix them

No no no you got it all wrong. The passengers on the bus must get out and walk, otherwise they will develop a crutch mentality. Then the bus driver and his bus driver mates trade in the bus for a sports car since all the bus drivers overseas have sports cars.

I think what James is trying to say is that when an individual on this forum attempts to think differently from the others, it gives both the other posters and the moderator unnecessary difficulty in steering the forum in the right direction.

While I do not always agree with (Hardly ever) James' style of moderating, I do feel that because this thread is just our way of paying respects to JBJ, we should refrain from indulging in the noosing of the moose.

On the other hand, James' moderating has been conditional. He basically governs based more on his personal philosophies than a strict rule of enforcement. Certain topics are allowed to get rather out of hand, while other topics (which he personally believes strongly in such as anti-bullying and anti-politics) receive harsher regulations. It is difficult at times to gauge what he would deem acceptable and what would undermine the forum's integrity.

That doesn't mean he doesn't try his best though. It is difficult to keep things in check sometimes and seriously, how many of us would have taken so much time from our lives over the years to cater to a bunch of individualistic freedom-touting mavericks like some of us? Not many, so kudso to him for that.

All in all, I'm no fan of James' occasionally misinformed and maligned perceptions on certain topics, but this is a thread about JBJ. I deeply respect the man for putting up a good fight despite the undermining and underhanded ways of some 'big brothers'. So I think the least we can do in tribute to him is put aside our differences just for this one thread. It isn't that much to ask and would clearly show that our respects are sincere. Even if nobody else reads this thread but us, at least its intentions are pure.

Replied to James on PM...I've given my take how he can solve these issues... imo a direct approach is much better than a soft approach.

I have no doubt a lot of other people including me have a lot of respect for JBJ's ideals and his struggles to achieve them. He will be missed.

Out.

JBJ , i was so tempted to buy a book he was selling once but i ran out of cash that evening in front of raffles city . That man has earned my respect .

i seriously he should not be remembred for an opposition leader.he should be rembered as a man who stood up for his right what he believe was right in the most postive way ever.ive never seen such positve dedication.haha.its about opposing smartly not like some ppl who do stupid things and rebell without a casue and land themselves in shit.i really respect mr jbj for his dedication.now i believe he is the true embodiment of rock and roll sprit.instead of whining he stood by his beiliefs and did something till he was bankrupt.take the political part away.he is a man of great passion.sadly i never got to meet him.my extended condoleneces to him.

I saw this in camp and was all WTF. There's only one man in Singapore who's been beaten and trampled on by govt more than JBJ and that's Chia Thye Poh our Sentosa commie. But that's a different story for another apathetic Singaporean bedtime.

Damn the PM sucks at the Hallmark shit eh? Haha. It's basically saying sorry i screwed your dad's and your life up. Good to hear you're okay. Haha wat a laugh.

But away from that. I don't think there'll be any more Singaporeans with balls of steel like JBJ in the near future. As long as Singaporeans are distracted by clubbing and exams and trying to kiss ass to your boss we'll never have the devotion to a cause the way that man did. I hope his legacy lives on.

Oh yeah, if you don't like the bus driver, you can always just get off the bus. But you won't get to where you want, unless of course you wait for the next bus. But then the bus fare may be more expensive. Oh yeah maybe no aircon and there's too much piss and litter and vandalism. But that bus the driver nicer. Then again in the bus you got off you had air-con and a hot chick sitting next to you, but cannot anyhow shout ah must be considerate. The other bus can anyhow shout wan, driver also dont care, in fact he likes when the bus noisy. Speaking in analogy is fun, just add more shit to it to make it interesting.

Well there's also a chance that the next bus that comes along might be a limo!
Or a taxi :D

It all depends on what's your favoured mode of transport :)

okay maybe the bus we're on wants its passengers to make more babies. so it has seats which vibrate and tickle your balls. how can you pass up that shit?? but then again cannot anyhow make noise. and you damn well be doing something productive on the bus.

Hi, I would appreciate it if political comments/opinions are kept to a minimum. I will continue to allow expressions of condolences.
