Introspective: How do you play your guitars?

1. When you play your guitars, do you consciously play them in a certain way? Do you play a strat like a bluesman, an LP like a rocker and a shred machine like a shredder? or do you play all these guitars the same way?
These are really just stereotypes and excuses for idiots who cant play. HAHA! no la kidding. but seriously, steve vai will still sound like steve vai on a squire strat.

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you? - To me, well yes. When i switched from ibanez to fender, the initial hard stage was transposing my most challenging licks over, cos the ibanez just seemed so effortlessly playable. However once i got used to it, i daresay im a better player now, and my licks are much cleaner and precise too.

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals? The pedals and my guitar is my basic sound....i should be able to pretty much dial in my tone into any decent clean amp with a decent amount of headroom.... but pls never ever give me that SMARVO amp to use ever again

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person? I am a one guitar guy. Refer to answer one, first line if you wanna know why. Btw, i do play for the love of god on my strat...when i feel like wanking sometimes:p

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Superstrat, Strat, LP? For me, its all good. I'm equally comfortable with strats and superstrats. I don like LPs but my band gets them for free anyways, so why not?

1. When you play your guitars, do you consciously play them in a certain way? Do you play a strat like a bluesman, an LP like a rocker and a shred machine like a shredder? or do you play all these guitars the same way?
Yeah. That's what different guitars are for, right? I have the same primary playing style that i can play on all three of my guitars but they have their specific uses. I play very cleanly (both the style of playing and gain) with my tele, i beat the shit out of my jaguar, and i play the "chugga chugga" on the strat.

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you?
Definitely. the feel and sound produced by all three of the guitars are miles apart. as above, i play cleanly on my tele, i beat the shit out of my jaguar and i like to abuse my strat with the "chugga". However, all the guitars have one thing in common: they satisfy my thirst for the blues :D

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals?
Not really. I just get whatever sounds good to me, and reacts well to my guitars. that's the key. I mean I have 3 fenders, so people would expect me to have a blackface or tweed. but no, i'm using a laney that can get rather high gain, even with my single coils. might get a vox or a blackface sounding amp in the distant future though.

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person?
My guitar does not affect my song choice. If i were to try to mimic the guitarists playing in the song, I'd go mad. I'm a very simple person. one guitar into 2 overdrive pedals into the amp with reverb. I don't have a huge pedalboard with a gazillion effects or a multieffects pedal with 10000 modulation effects, 9999 of them being unused. I like the raw sound i get and i use it in everything i play. Of course, i try to make it sound as authentic as possible, but with my 3-guitar army, just about any sound is within my grasp. except probrably extreme metal.

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Superstrat, Strat, LP?
I have a jaguar, a tele and a strat. is there a need to ask? i'm a strat man. i really dislike most superstrats and i'm not at ease with the baseball bat of a neck that les pauls usually sport. the fender feel is the best feel.

To better understand myself i shall attempt this questions...

1. When you play your guitars, do you consciously play them in a certain way? Do you play a strat like a bluesman, an LP like a rocker and a shred machine like a shredder? or do you play all these guitars the same way?
I think .. my phrasing style does not differ much across various guitars. I do however capitalize on the guitar's strengths e.g LP for better heavy riffs and more sustain, Strats i do more open chords and with the 2 & 4 positions available, i play alot more percussively.

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you?
As the tonal attributes change with each guitar , i do play alittle differently , my sense of melody does not change ... more of the delivery. if playing with P90s, i completely think indie and go for that low gain jingle jangly playing style, i go for less notes - more texture. i will try not to palm mute that much to let the unique P90 character shine through. With Humbuckers i tend to be more "Rock" and single coils (usually in the strat config) its so versatile that i can pretty much do an almost decent job of what i want in my head.

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals?
When Jamming and Gigging , choice of amps stuff are usually "you get what you see"
i usually leave all my effects/ pedals settings the same and adjust the Amp's EQ to taste. I feel whether something sounds good or not , depends on the audience listening, not yourself. Generally if people clap and smile, its all ok.

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person?
Nope, i think having tonal variety with multiple guitars is good to have but not a must.
I feel a musician can "Da Tian Xia" even without owning a guitar. He/she just needs to be able to Play well.

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Superstrat, Strat, LP?
Id like to think im a strat guy, but i also love the lespaul ... end of the day id like to be able to do speed metal riffing on clean and play some serious funk heavily distorted.

I play whatever way feels comfortable

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you?
LP is good for Led Zep, GnR, Santana stuff,Queen, Strats are good for hendrix, SRV , blues, jazz stuff, so yeah the tonal characteristics depict the type of sound I know I can get from the said guitar...but then again, some strats can get almost all sounds with the use of Humbuckers and the tone knobs...So maybe that is why I always use HSS strats

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals?
I actually buy gear that can be versatile for all my guitars

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person?
Nope, that would be too anal. Like I said, the strat is versatile

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Strat for me since I love almost all genres and I like to try to be as versatile as possible...but LPs probably can be versatile too with the right mods, but I dig the mojo in strats more

1)I play metal so i'll rock out whatever guitar i have. So i play these guitars the same way.

2)I don't feel as comfortable as playing a RG/Strat than a Tele/LP. I don't think different because i still rock out on stage with whatever guitar you give me. I love the Telecaster and Les Paul so i feel better when i play them.

3)I play what i think is nice.

4)I use a Tele with EMG actives and i play metal. But i still play acoustic/clean type songs on it.

5)I think the Les Paul. But i freaking hate the weight so i'll go with a Tele instead.

I only answer the Q&A because...

Actually, the music makes me play more differently than the instrument on hand. Treading new, less familiar territory (different guitars) also affects me more than the type of guitar I'm holding. The approach is the same for all of them but I suppose if a guitar is more difficult to shred on, I'd refrain from it. I mean, guitarist ego cannot be dented pls.

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you?
As above. More difficult to play shred? Then I might play less shreddy stuff. Thin, anemic tone? I might not want to have nice lush sustained chords. So like take a strat with sky high action and uh, a thin tone, I might prefer to do jangly stuff on it. Of course, fit the music at hand.

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals?
In general, I think any gear can be tweaked, stretched ,warped to sound its best in any given scenario. It might not be THE best but it can be maximised. That said, I don't know much about matching an amp to an effect or guitar but I do what goes best with my setup and what I can do to make things work better with my setup. So in a personal sense, yes, I focus my gear on what I have at my feet. In the general sense, I dunno but I might like to try it out.

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person?
No and yes.

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Superstrat, Strat, LP?
Superstrat. Actually, the term superstrat is kinda limiting. I used to enjoy chekcing out the latest innovations on guitardom but everytime I got down to LISTENING to it, my ears didn't like it. Just too attuned to the old school wood, nickel frets & passive pups tone... just like a toobscreamer-lover. That said, I've gone backwards into superstrat single humbucker world. I'm intrigued with how much musically my poor brain can supply without "gimmicks" of switches and knobs.

Because Pathein wasn't himself...

ok, i will try again

i play the geetar like ancient chinese kungfu man. Where the importance, aint the instrument, but all in the mind and the key stroke. Making use of whatever material one has in the hand, delievering the fooking fury and make sure enemies have no chance of survival

2. How do you feel when playing these guitars? Do you think differently? react differently? What are examples that show that these guitars are different or the same to you?

Guitar is affecting my sexlife. I have nothing to think, say or even show how much geetar is the ultimate decline of mandom. Give up geetar or die like kuniang! Dont say i didnt warn ya!

3. Are you focusing your gear around a certain type of guitar? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb would ONLY sound good with a single coil to you? Or do you just play what you think is nice, and heck care the amp and pedals?

duhhhh, that as if saying sex is only missionary style!!! Next better question please

4. Do you play certain songs mainly because you have the right guitar for those songs? or are you a one guitar "Da Tian Xia" kind of person?

Sorry, i dont do covers nor believe in sex is missonary style only

5. Which of these 3 kinds of guitars describes you as a player? In the sense, which of these 3 types of guitars personifies you as a player? Superstrat, Strat, LP?

Same boring answer as first time round. I dont limit myself nor holed up myself into 1, 2 or 3 stlyes. Like i mentioned earlier, geetaring result in decline of mandom, limiting oneself to 1, 2 or 3 choices is the catalyst to speed up that decline. Be a man, reject limitations and embrace endless choices. Even if your geetaring skill cant make it, at least your love ones will appreaciate you, when they are with someone else next time, you will be the one in their mind when they are romancing their partners...

Wrong analogy... It's more like "Sex with women only"
paiseh, as much i love fella bro bros, sista sis, for my own preference, i still prefer species of the opposite type. In that sense, iam boring. Do pardon me. Now iam starting to see the limitations of my ownself! This thread, RORKSSSS!!

Pathin is OUT FER BLOOOOODDDDD!!!! OUT FERRRR BLOOOODDDDDDDD!!!!

Blood, like piss and cum, are part of us, in general. Same goes for geetaring, to embrace and break through the art of geetaring, one need to see thru the dirt and sleezy essence of life, let it be our source of inspirations and combining it into playing, then we will see light!
