how to make it big

Lol, this is funny. Just practise work hard you'll get labels coming to you the words spreads fast if ur band is amazing. Imagine u were necrophaghist and not white. Which label wont take you man? hahaha. Labels are more then willing to take good bands..

so skin plays a part in making an impression in the music business.

well these people dont know whats talent.

No need to argue so much lah, I think.

If you've got it, you just got it.

If you don't have it, you'll forever be stuck playing in mediocre gigs playing mediocre songs to mediocre crowds.

The bright side is that you can just drift and daydream and pretend you are a rockstar for that moment(s), every single time.

If some things are beyond our control, we just make the best of what we have now lor. Just enjoy our own performances and encourage ourselves and pat ourselves on the back lor.

=pedialite

to be big, must you play metal?

which metal band sells higher records then The Beatles?
Beatles don't play metal :D

Sucks! I forgot to mention Micheal Jackson with his 100million copies of Thriller.

Ever wondered why those blues musicians better than Rolling Stones and rappers (who are brothers) with a more a killa' flow than Eminem who never got their break?

Luck and skin colour. Middle America buys white, doode...

Aging Youth beat me to it.

But in all seriousness, I think knowing the right people/having a vast amount of contacts plays a major role in making it big. Forget about money/talent, if you dont know people, you wont get anywhere.

And just a question, which is grammatically correct 'if I were' or 'if I was'?

Skills good = music nice? I beg to differ. There are so many musicians with insane skills but the music don't sound good

I didnt say skills good = music nice
I said most important = skills good music nice = skills good x music nice :D

and nice music is subjective anyway :/

lets take it abit further. music nice doesnt mean nice to watch also.
music nice cannot reproduce live = :(
got skills got nice music + no energy = :( also..

people like travis barker are delightful to watch :D

CHEERS!

i quote shredcow's signature

"Some of the best guitarists I've met have never been on a stage, and some of the guys I've met on stage should never have been allowed near one"

If I were Justin Timberlake, I would have had Britney and Scarlett before and I am having Jessica now.

Used for hypothetical situations.

if i were Justin Timberlake, I would have BOTH britney and scarlett and let Jessica watch them in action NOW

i think we have a pretty decent music scene. don't lose hope in it. and good artistes do get signed by the majors, such as firebrands, tanya chua and stephanie sun. there are also pretty good session musicians/ producers from singapore, such as chor kerong and hanjin...so don't worry too much about labels appearing inactive - just focus on music and enjoying it, good things come to those who wait. (and practice)

There are a lot of comments here verging on being anti-white.

Like i said, i don't know how it is out there, but i know that if you go in to the game with the attitude that 'i'm not white, so i won't make it anyway', then you will never get anywhere.

And don't deserve to get anywhere with that attitude, as the music business isn't about comparing one act to another (only critics do this) - it is about originality. Originality cannot be developed in a musician if they are constantly comparing themselves to others.

Blaming everyone else is the easy way to deal with the fact that you simply may not be any good.

And the last time i looked, Snoop Dogg wasn't white. He has managed to get by ok ;)

I have to say, as a white westerner, i take offence to some of the comments here. There are thousands of non-white musicians out there. Open your eyes.
