How to add more gain to distortion

Basically what the topic said. Are there any pedals like that around? Can boosters like the LPB-1 help to increase gain?

My current gain actually is quite good. MY dist/od units are mt-2,ds-1 and sd-1, I run them, mainly mt-2, through cs-3 -> eh-2 -> eq -> gp-20. The sound I would describe as almost Megadeth-ish and 80's metal which I am fairly pleased of. But I thought having an extra boost would help in the gain department and help in giving the distortion more ferocity. Something like what Megadeth has done in Youthanasia and Countdown To Extinction.

you are actually aiming for saturation here which a clean booster might help. however, it's more effective to employ a drive booster instead. if you wish to do so, your primary distortion gain level eg: MT-2 should be set lower. this way you'd hear the saturation more effectively.

however, if you are pleased with your current set-up, try a clean bosster first 8)

Metal Muff- it depends.

this pedal has a fuzz quality to it that might be repulsive to some of us here. also, the full-sized version featuring the Top Boost function, adds lots of treble to the mix. this is again acquired taste.

I'm more inclined to get the LPB-1 after reading what it can do if put in front of a dist/od unit. Plus it's one of the cheapest boosters around with value for money. I understand its not really a clean boost. The mxr micro amp is one but more pricey.

Iactually tried selling my mt-2 but after listening to some more expensive dist unit (metal muff not included) I decided its not worth forking out extra money and the mt-2 would be good enough, plus its modded and I tweaked it to the sound I like best. Anyway, the best way for me to find out which booster suits me is to use it with my setup right? Thats so cumbersome to carry around . :(
No choice buy 1st then pray it works well.

..you have lots of gain already ... please play with a louder amp !!
The Mt2 is a pretty versatile pedal if only one knows how to use it
Btw there is a nice mod to remove that '80's metal nasal yucks' to a tighter low and screaming high !

Dig this...most metal bands just use straight-up into a high gain "muscle amp" and at times a TS type in between for that added push.

For fellas who can't afford "muscle amps", the ability to tweak a high gain pedals to taste is essential rather than adding more = madness !

Look at your set up wasp imagine your mt2 as the high gain amp,
the eq as the preamp and the sd1 as the booster. Tweak the Mt2 to taste at lower gain >> tweak eq to taste (don't go to extremes) >> play around a bit >> now off both pedals and kick in sd1 and tweak to taste (very little gain and raised later to taste)) >>> now kick in all three through a cranked amp !!

come back and tell us abt it

Actually playing louder does give an extra crunch but I want more oomph!! even when playing at lower volume. Thought a booster might help here. I usually play at room level just nice enough for my own hearing.

yes..cutting back on the midrange freq does help..

i scoop my mids for a nice chugga sound..basically scooping my mids gives me less crunch..which exactly wad i need..but need to adjust the lower freqs accordingly..its basically juz playin with them nobs like u do wit them tits. :D
