okay here goes i dono where to put this under, so i thot here might be good.

how does the electric violin works, rather than getting a whole new electric violin, can you install a guitar pick up into it? and also use the guitar effects to the violin do you guys think its possible?

u don't even need a pick up ...just get a condensor mic ...then straight into effects of you choice :D

non contact mic

here is a combo ...i would highly recommend this..

Combination of one condenser microphone with piezo elements, flexible clamp, but might need a proper mixer tho !

are you sure is that simple they have knobs there too like the guitar, sorry i am no guitar player i don know the knobs are for what.

okay i will state my purporse den, TO REPLACE THE GUITAR SHREDDING lols joking! pple will come to kill me. what i want is to put in effects like distortion on the violin thats all, maybe having a clear warm amplication of the original violin sound will be nice too.

i read about the piezoelectric pickups though, hmmm is it just that simple ?

u can stick a pick up on your violin ...your call !

my exguitarist double's a violin player ...and thats^ what he used.

Google and read more fella ...see how others do it !!

oh man i read alot le,

there are the brabarue or whatever you smell it pick up etc, but i dono if i could do that thing out myself , is there a shop to go to to fix the pickup for me?i know one of the pickup is external but some happens to be internal. lols my violin 1K break i sad sial.

i thinking of going to the esplande branch and ask them up today.

gsonique but whats the difference between the high end zeta brand and the low end one, is it only the sound quality?

The best is to go to a Violin shop and get personnal advice.
What i have suggested above is reversable ....what you wanting (pick-up mounting internal ...external whatever not) is ireversable !!

gsonique but whats the difference between the high end zeta brand and the low end one, is it only the sound quality?

Yes !! condensor mics = gives nice full rich tone ...whereas the piezo= gives u sparkle and chimes ...mix them both ...you the king of the hill !!

same goes to acoutic guitars as well !!

okay here goes after 2 days of researching i have finally decided to d.i.y the EV myself.

Firstly i going to buy a new 4/4 violin or a viola i think it would be around 580.

ok i will dismantle the chin neck the pegs everything and the fingerboard and colour the violin black. After which i would go to Gracmercy whom i talk to the violin maker there, he said he would be able to install the fingerboard for me and everything.

on my research i have calculated that
chin - used back the old one
fingerboard - 150
pegs - used back the old one
bridge - used back the old one MAYBE!

SO IN THE END this whole recolouring will just cost me 580 plus plus which i round up to 650. NOW THE HARD PART.

gsonique the pic with the condensor mic is from SDS right the thing is we cannot get it locally. ALOT OF THIS FREAKING STUFF THEY JUST DON BRING IN. and i dono how good is fishman pick up. i do not want to waste my bucks on something thats middle range and change it to the high end next time. i rather get all in one go.

okay so after 2 days of research i got that you can get Barcus-Berry bridge input 1320 or a external mount piezo which will cost about SG 400 (online purchase). i am okay with that as well. AND OR my second choice will be the Shadow pickup from guitar 77 however their salesman whom i called told me they can do a special order to bring it in. OR lastly fishman external mount piezo from ranking sports which cost about 200 plus. but i dont personally favour fishman unless you guys here would go against it.

After which i might get an mic and put it in the F hole. gsonique would you be able to refer me to any stores in singapore which i can get a good acoustic violin mic.

Total cost will be about 1850.

not forgetting preamps. i seen those in fender in zeta they all have preamps inside the violin. but most preamps that i look across needs batteries to operate so its so unwise to put it inside the violin huh.

Gsonique after reading my views what do you think ,? do you think i should go ahead as plan or what? My last question is i insert the piezo pickup to the preamp den to my distortion(or other effects) den to my amplifer . is that right?

if any of the dudes here have diy the EV please please please let me know :)

hi guys i found new info.

there are such things as the transducer pick up that actually get more of the sound quality and cancel out the bow sound which i really don want.!!!

Schertler are one that offer such.

can i know the difference btw a transducer pick up and the piezo one. websites have claim the sound of piezo are magnatic and not as good as a transducer is that truth?

B-band has another version of the transducer what do you guys think. and lastly www.headwayelectronics.com has THE BAND which seems to fix my choice excatly but i wonder is it that useful. please give me ur opinions :)

personally, i think both transducer and consender mic works great but i see no point the piezo.. even though i'm a guitarist and not a violin shredder..i feel violin on it nature are already very very sharp sounding instrument.. which makes me wonder y my conductor used to tell me violin soloist love to tune up their violins to 443hz to stand out from the rest... hmz.. maybe they should have know of something called the booster ya? haha... anyway... like i said.. violins are sharpies.. so i guess u can 4get the piezo..

transducer, the good 1s, are able to pick up the vibrations and translate them back to a very think n nice tone.condenser mic on another hand will be very much able to bring out the lively part when being able to hear the sound when your bow lands onto the string.. more treble too :)

personally i think a normal contact transducer pickup like wad john pearse is offering is great enuff.. if you aint satisfied, you can always go back to the great EQ.. haha..the biggest thing for acoutic instrument pick up is to acheive the original tone of the instrument.. so if it manupilates your tone and acheive something better, then i most prob is designed with a hidden eq preset that changes the freq it captured...i might b wrong though..

lols yar lar now i am thinking of transducer but look around first got options not so rush. my mother say you cannot paint my violin sial IS IT TRUE :( lols.

but the ang moh violin maker tell me say CAN. so heck we just pain lar hor lols. :)
