How much sustain do you have?

Hey dude, my set up is not much, currently using a yamaha pacifica thru a Keeley DS-1 thru a 15 watt Ibanez amp. That set up is not much, jus enough to keep my chops up until I get enough money to buy better gear. My strings are around 1 month old.

bare knuckles on a pacifica... which model? a bit OVERKILL i suppose.

your 15 watt ibanez speaker how many inch? 8 inch ah?
when you try that time what pedals are you using to cascade? you need a nice sustaining distortion like a bigmuff and something else to push it harder.

your strings 1 month. rusty or not? still fresh a bright or not?
your guitar got setup properly or not?

a lot of variables... and a lot of beginners wants TONS of sustain... me included then but think about it...

are you gonna play your chops triple half time just to hear the sustain?
are you gonna play white lion's when the children cry solo all the time for that sustain?
are you gonna play gary moore's still got the blues for the sustain?

sustain is overrated. you want more sustain, get a nice les paul with that muddy neck pickup with cascading gain on a nice loud at least 12" amp and sustain. They like to call that the 2 ton violin tone.

i knew you'd come in here! hhahahaha... laypor freak!

send your guitar to me... I'll rewire your neck pickup to be BRIGHT! hahaha...

Position 1: Bridge humbucker
Position 2: Bridge + Neck in parallel
Position 3: Bridge humbucker, tone & vol dis-connected, active treble boost +25dB

Someone suggested lowering the pickup height. Apparently the magenetic pull on the strings will be less and the strings can vibrate longer.

Thats true.

And you'll end up with less output and ess bass / more crisp tone and the pickup doesn't pickup harmonics that well - basically using the pup the way it wasn't meant to be used.

There's a reason for the multitude of pups out there, low output to high ouput, different magnets etc etc...

I believe in having an optimum pup height that allows for maximum reproduction of harmonics without noticable string pull or muddiness...

But then... who's to say you can't lower the pup?!

fernandes sustainer peeps if u need long sustain. oh wells moore is using a les paul and a soldano so yeah its no surprise he can get it to sustain so long.

high gain amp with plenty of compression. plus that chunk of wood hes using. both add up to make a long sustaining and singing sound. and it proves u can use high gain to play the blues.
