how low slung is your guitar

oh haha.. hmm so where is the pt where it is really too low.. hmm if it is crotch level shud b just nice righty? a sorta compromise

The point where your wrists feel the strain, and pain extensively, is the point which is probably too low.

I wear my guitar as high as my dimarzio clip locks can allow for. Note these straps were meant for the tall built caucasions, so it might not suit all of us(but can be altered). So, the guitar stays about hip level.

i think it seems like a rule written by the past that guitars are to be carried low by punk rockers......but low is only when you're carrying it like green day's joe armstrong.....

but low itself is a very subjective matter and it varies greatly from person to person......i think in the end it's really up to you to decide where is just nice as we're not the ones playing the guitar

I don't think so. You'll either just hurt yourself or never improve beyond a certain level because you simply can't play that low.

ok. I think the idea is that there is a range that people can learn to get used to but there are also some heights that are just physically impractical. rite?

Well, not just them, but for any music that just requires a rudimentry amount of skills to play... like you just have to pound away at a few power chords. You can afford to sling it low then.

But if you want to do sweeps, you want to play high up the neck... there's absolutely no way to get there without hurting yourself, other than slinging it higher. Look at Paul Gilbert, his outro string skipping on Scarified, he props his guitar on his knee to play that.

If you want to find a good position to start, just sit down with your guitar, play it and thats it, thats how high you should sling it.

yea true........it's all up to the person's own personal range......unless you wanna try carrying the guitar like billie joe armstrong and play like jimmy page 8O

yeah, its personal preference.... but just to make sure newbies don't take up an axe and sling it as low as it can go, just to emulate their heroes, and end up with wrist injuries. ;)

a classic example :

Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave

carries his guitar high but is cool, comes up with some of the catchiest riffs, jumps around, shreds, plays with feel

he HAS to sling his guitar high cuz of the toggle switching techniques that he employs. and many other various unorthodox techniques that would be much simpler when the guitar is around chest level.

oh........but it would still be possible to do that if it were low slung just that he would really have to practise a lot to get used to it wouldn't he?

hehehe...my fren n i normally practice sitting down cuz it's less tiring..n when we read tabs of our com screens we wud be sitting down...so it's kinda weird when we play standing up strap-on...hehehe...

hahaha yea........i used to be like this too.....until i feel a bit restricted in my ability to express myself......it's like rock n roll while sitting down.........rock n sit.....but standing gives you a chance to get used to the weight and at the same time in case you have a performance you can't possibly sit down and play......unless you're playing with les paul himself or bb king  .........

one thing good about sling high, is stabiliy.. .the guitar don't move much and you can pretty much reach anywhere on the fretboard.

Mine is around waist level.... I tried putting it to crotch/knee level, and my fretting hand developed cramps around the wrist..... I tried putting it really high at chest level, because my guitar is quite thick (Ibanez SZ), it felt really uncomfortable....... So the waist is where it stays for now

oh yea.....if your guitar is mahogany and it's low......you start to get shoulder ache and back ache if you jump around too much......wonder how slash does it with no problems though........

My les paul is killing my back too.
slash doesnt jump around with his les paul, sometime he uses his thighs to support the les paul.

that's for solos right? i see most of guns n roses live concerts their stage are too damn big......then slash runs around and jumps from certain areas here and there......

my guitar is really a pain in the ass. Both the strap nuts are located behind the guitar which results in the guitar being imbalanced. the neck will be pointing downwards if i suspend it on my shoulders. Scary to use it live, though it's the only guitar i have......anybody know how to solve this?????
