hey guys, how low do u all put ur guitar while playing. it seems looks dam nerdy n ugly if u put it high. but its also dam hard to play if you put it low, though it looks super cool .. hmm :?

personal preference....or maybe u can try getting use to playing it low or something...practice till u get it right and get use to it i guess...i started low from the first day and till now no problem..but really i think its personal preference..plus..a bit more of practicing n getting use..

if u wanna play low, then put it low and practice...then ok already...but u will find that over time, it doesnt matter how high or low your guitar is slung, anywhere also can play fine. i do know that some people have to keep their straps at a certain precise point, cannot highten or lower, if not will play wrong/cant palm mute or whatever...but these people over time also, it dont matter to them anymore. So don't fret about it, have fun! :)

Actually, michealangelo, I beg to differ.

Physical attributes and the type of music decide how long you can sling your axe.

I don't have long fingers like Paul Gilbert or Vai but I love to play instrumental stuff so I sling it up really high, like a jazz player.

Now, if I sling low, I'll start to hurt my fretting hand and if I keep to it, I'd probably get injured.

On the other hand, my fellow guitarist in camp, has really long fingers, slings it low like Paul Gilbert and has no problem shredding and playing arppegios.

So yeah. Its dangerous to persist trying to play in a position that hurts yourself. You'll end up with permanant injuries then.

Of course, you got short fingers but you only play punk songs, feel free to sling it low. Keeps the image and you don't have anything hard to play. ;)

i carry it somewhere around the same as where slash carries his les paul.....and i use a les paul too........a bit hard to solo higher up the fretboard but once you've been practising at that kind of a height you will get use to it eventually........

but the main thing would be to do what you are most comfortable with......style isn't everything.......skill is........my ex-guitar teacher carried his guitar high but
when he plays.....it makes me look like a noob instead

yea, u've got a point too...when i first started out, my wrist would hurt when i slung my guitar low...now im more or less comfortable with the looks, as well as the position of playing with the guitar around the level of my hips. :)

haha yeah my hand wud hurt when i play the powder chord too.. haha :( and sommore if i put it low right when i slide and stuff the whole guitar seems to move togethere also.. dam irritating mine is like bit lower then the crotch area... haha is that too low?

it's actually simple phyiscs to me it seems........the lower you carry your guitar the harder to control it becomes......especially if you don't have long hands.....but i guess maybe it's the strap?

the higher the better more control. i play higher than eric johnson but i dont think it's anything wrong i dont care ppl laugh but it suits me

i agree with tany.....play what you're most comfortable with and not what people will think of how cool you will be......

haha eric johnson like dam high la.. like at the chest liao.. but we young ppl wad. must b cooler n hipper right.. so high a bit like u noe wad i mean.. the pt is right, u can ultimately can control right as long as it is.. just that it takes longer?

it really all boils down to practise........if you keep practising at that height definately you will get used to it sooner or later but of course at the start it will be difficult to handle........ :)

haha LoL.. its also easier to jump if ur gutiar is high! but those that wear their guitar high r too *ahem* to jump... :D

I don't think so. You'll either just hurt yourself or never improve beyond a certain level because you simply can't play that low.

a classic example :

Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave

carries his guitar high but is cool, comes up with some of the catchiest riffs, jumps around, shreds, plays with feel
