How do you pronounce D'Addario?

We used receive e-mails and letters each week regarding the correct pronunciation of the DAddario name. Some years back, we even ran an ad that illustrated an easy way to pronounce the D'Addario name. The name is pronounced phonetically as follows: Da-Dairy-O A simple way to pronounce a tough name in musical accessories!

dah - dehri - o

The Correct Pronounciation

i have the catalog.. and it teaches tp Pronounce it's products too... It's DAH-DAIRY-O....

I guess that even if I knew the correct pronounciation, I would still have to use the incorrect " dee ah dah rio" to get my message across to the shop uncle.

+10000, haha. who cares about the correct pronounciation! whats more important is whether the other party actually understands what the hell you're trying to say...

great thread by the way!

Yea I agree. It's like some words you just can't pronounce the right way cos we all know that the majority of people & even some music shop assistants won't know what the hell brand you're talking about.

I had friends who used to pronounce 'spaghetti' as 'spare-ter-gee'. Hai yo.

And a classmate who used to say "I want care-mer-rell topping" instead of 'caramel'. Haha.

Oh how they used to crack me up like an egg.

what about LINGER-REE??

most singaporeans are bilingual, meaning they have 2 second languages and no first language.

d'addario is italian, so the proper pronunciation is Dahd-DAH-ree-oh.

the CAPS signify the emphasis. words have emphasis and varying rhythm. such as "eCONomy" and "ecoNOMics". the emphasis is fixed and you cannot suka suka pronounce.

chinese on the other hand has tones, but constant rhythm. some people speak english as if they are speaking chinese and sound like retards.

wtf am i teaching ppl how to speak english. but then again when i was in school i had textbooks with fuken cartoon animals instead of proper english.

pronouciation

I use to call it "diarrhea" when I just started out.

Man, that caused some serious outburst, mates.

But seriously, I'd call it DEEE-AHH-DARE-REO!

SHINOBI - Haha...Yea unfortunately i've also had to hear pple call it "ling-ger-ree". And i even had some cousins come in from USA & they had brought some of their friends (from Taiwan i think) and when i asked which hotel they were putting up at, to my horror, one of them said, "Oh, we're staying at "Rent-desk-vous" Hotel. OMG.

And i absolutely cringe & buay tahan when pple in S'pore pronounce it as "Volks-wagen". It's a German-made car. The least u could do is pronounce is the way it's supposed to be pronounced! "Folks-vaaa-gen". HAIYO HAIYO. :???:

Dudelove: Your dad was carping his par?? HAHA! Ai ya, sometimes we humans speak before our brains process what we wanna say then it comes out all wrong.
