How do u find the metalcore scene in Singapore?

I cringe up a little when I listen to metalcore. Some bands are alright and some are good, but many have these ultra emo choruses that are downright emo and not acceptable to the metal genre. Like As I Lay Dying (wow such an emo band name) and Bullet for My Valentine.

The whole deal about all the arguement and debate is to ask the kids to stop acting so hardcore or coolio or whatever they think they are and listen to the real deal heavy metal that has been around for decades.

Everywhere I go I see these kids clad in black who say they like metal but wtf, they look sooo EMOOO

You're talking like metalcore is the god of all genres..

Well fuzzmusick, firstly metalcore isn't the God of all Genres, it may not even come close... and its true it has many influences from varied areas esp. hardcore punk etc... but I like to think that it tries to take the best out of each of its influences, and transmutes everything into something that arguably brings a new sound and flavor to the metal genre

Secondly, its unfair and inaccurate to bunch all metalcore bands under the same category... its quite obvious in my opinion you are discounting the new wave of experimental metalcore bands which derive inspiration from sounds like electronica, 8-bit etc.. go Youtube Horse the Band, House vs Hurricane, Enter Shikari, iwrestledabearonce etc to see what I mean.

Thirdly, it seems that an reasonably knowledgeable person like yourself seems to be letting nostalgia envelope you in a musically Aryan bubble... you seem to rate only punk and pure heavy Iron Maiden metal as genres worth listening to, and personally I feel you are letting the "kids" fashion sensibilities cloud you from enjoying the music, which should always come first before the skinny jeans and wind swept dark-colored hairstyles...

Lastly, metalcore is an acquired taste... and not everyone loves it... heck the scene is arguably still minute compared to the legions of Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana fans... and don't get me started on the Mandopop parade... And I have a strong feeling cause its getting mainstream in your dictionary for the negativity spewing out from your posts... but frankly I still feel it's alright... I don't hear As I Lay Dying on 987fm do I?

I rest my case

Music evolved around you my man.....
Don't be an A*S to thrash others if you hate the band or genre.
This is very typical in metal fans or should i say metalcore fans.

if you're feeling angry or guilty, the above sentences GOES OUT to you.!

:)

i agree. the music always comes first before the fashion.

besides, i feel that sg's metal scene is abit too overrated in the genres they play. almost everything here is either death metal or all that symphonic metal shit...

if iron maiden suddenly turned metalcore (which will never happen i know) and started wearing skinny jeans and dyed their hair or somethin', i bet no one will ever listen to them ever again..

mindsets should be changed about the metalcore scene here. i have confidence in the genre as it has also sprouted some home grown bands as well. and thats just only the beginning. for you metalcore bands out there, just do your thing and don't give a friggin damn about how you look like or play like, cuz it ain't about your image or whatever, it's about your music.

people love stick their noses in the air and crucify "metalcore" as some pussy assed untr00 genre..pussy or not it's gotten a whole new generation of kids into heavy music and beyond, thats all good in my book.

metalcore to me will always be bands like vision of disorder..candiria, neck, deadguy, zao, embodyment etc...i may not like the current crop of bands but hey, different strokes eh?

I just feel metalcore is the only genre that encourages moshing in my opinion... and its just part of the spirit and culture to like hxc dance and body slam and stuff...

And yes the local frontmans need to up the showmanship part a bit to get the crowd with them

And you can't just mosh to anything... only certain genres...

don't believe me... check out the vid below... EPIC FAIL

IMHO, that isnt epic fail. you can mosh to any song with fast beats IMO.

HAHA . i only understand 2 cores , metalcore & hardcore . like what wiki stated , metalcore is a sub-genre of both heavy metal + hardcore punk .

do you by any chance also listen to silent civilian?

cool silent civilian. spineshank's lead singer issit? cant remember what they sound like, but reminds me of the days when i was still listening to metalcore. my tastes have softened nowadays i guess, whenever i listen to metalcore its more of the "new" metalcore, the more "wuss" type i suppose xD

oh and the yellowcard wall of death? yea. epic fail.

Eh I realise I don't know any pewpew metalcore bands in Singapore. (old a7x trivium bmfv that type)

ENJOY MUSIC! :D Singapore has alot of 'heavy' bands one la, got punk got metal got hardcore, pig squeals. You want to enjoy it anot only :/

I didn't enjoy Slipknot or Black Dahlia Murder or Jonas Brothers or DJ Tiesto cause they play a certain genre. I enjoy their music cause when I listen I was like : "FWAH! BAIK SIOLX!"

And one more thing, alot of people say like, 'xxx' genre very little bands la, not enough 'xxx' genre gigs. But if you actually go to gigs, you'll realise that there are alot of gigs that'll cater to your musical taste

Cents&Rants

well my dear ah boon, I suggest you take a listen and decide really whether its really that "weird" or just plain ground breaking, check out the video A Million Exploding Suns http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijpBMB7euRI for some 8-bit loving or I Love Kevin Bacon which is really crazy sonically wise especially for a female front woman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrFTR9fucr8
