steve vai did indeed use the ibanez backstop.
its not as stiff as a tremsetter.
and since a tremsetter feels stiff, doing flutters, well forget about it.
vibrato isnt affected, unless you do very very wide vibrato where you go above and below the target note, then you'll feel a like a little click where the center of the trem is at.
and yes, i have a tremsetter, but not installed yet.
tho i've tried my friend's tremsetter equipped guitar.
and it does help if you like doing double stop bends etc.
my trem tho is decent, a schaller floyd, just want more stability.
and just make sure you really want a tremsetter in, cos you'll need to drill a few holes.

24 fret, H/S guitar, neck pickup slanted, so if i want the tremsetter i have to sacrifice my neck pickup.

My problem with the tremsetter is that...
1) It only HELPS to improve stability
Thats means, you break a string, your trem still goes out of tune, just to a lesser degree.
You do a double stop bend, your trem still shifts, just to a lesser degree
2) Irritating "catch" as Everdying mentioned
3) Stiffens trem a lot, which defeats the purpose of having a trem
4) Kills flutter totally
The main issue is point 1. Where it merely helps, not ensures, stability. And most are under the impression it ensures stability. Want stability? Take a block of wood and jam your trem. Save your $ for something else.
Vai's Ibanez Backstop and the ESP Arming adjusters are different, they are counter springs that only affect your pullup feel. You can dive as per normal. Set up well, you have flutter.

Shred, the thread only turned out this way because of an opinion of yours treated as fact. You just pointed out the disadvantages and advantages of the tremsetter in your last post. So there are advantages right? So it can potentially help. Depending on what your needs are.
Anyway, the level of player that Dhalif is a sufficient condition for me to believe that he knows what he wants well enough. He just may not be able to express himself in words that well. I don't think he doens't know what he wants. Cut some slack, it's better to clarify first rather than assume, and I believe this is what you would want to do most of the time right?

Do you know Eddie the dutch set up his own with parts from a pawn shop (50dollar sss body + 80 dollar neck) self routed bridge cavity and threw in a salvaged 335 pu , which he eventually damaged and ruled the world ?
