i like maple/ swamp ash better than maple/alder. more chime & quackier 2 & 4 position sounds. maybe i just like ash better. haha.
northen hard ash & southern swamp ash generally sound different though.
southern swamp ash grows in water, so its more porous, hollow and resonant.
northern ash is usually heavier, with more sustain and more high-freq bite.
its not as lively or ringy as swamp ash though.
this is in general. like all wood, it varies from piece to piece,
