Now to recommend you a good high-gain distortion pedal. If you have $85, you can pay Mike at Standard Value a visit and try out the Beta Aivin HM-200. Very bang-for-buck but I have one and it's so good I'll definitely use it live and in studio for a long time. Incredibly versatile, too.

dude, never heard that one be4, even its so cheap, but I curious if it can play metalcore well , I tried the Boss metalzone2 with my guitar at the shop, and it sounds damn crazy, very heavy , even the price is alittle expensive but i think its worth

LOL. There's no such guitar called a metal guitar.
IMO, however, all this metalcore, hardcore, softcore, apple core stuff means squat to what is important here, which is your tone. For the most part, difference between this type of metal and that type of metal is not about the tone. It's about song structure, style of playing and lyrical content.
The tone opens up the genre. Your fingers defines it.
It definitely can play metalcore. Personally I find it sounds a lot better than the MT-2 Metalzone (heard it in studio before, head to head with my HM-200) and my HM-200 was a whole lot more powerful. And we were playing A7x.
and .. anyone know how to delete the old thread ?
In fact for a starter in heavy metal i wud recommend you buying with double ham bucking pickups guitar. You can get a lot from Peace center City Music sell good price guitar. To have good cool heavy rhythm riff try buying a set of standard 6 strings with 1st string in 0.11mm in dimension, this pull off a great heavy tone signal.I wud detune my guitar to 430hz D note on my six string which i usually strike my power chords which is 2 notes eg.D , second note is A , on the lower octave, this wud produce a big prominent distorted heavy sound. The gadgets,U will need any metal sounded gadgets which comes with a tone adjustment(play with the tone adjustment ),second gadget side by side to metal will be the EQ which the level must not be higher than the Metal level, set @ high must not be higher than the Mid,the Low adjust to the thickness must not be higher than the Highs. The distortions amount try to max not more than 50% of the master max level.By then U might get a fairly good heavy metal sounds. Try it...I stil prefers PRS..
