Have you seen Little Wing played like that!!!!

but its not little wing anymore... i mean its sound like its JUST improvisation over little wing chords, with a few tiny snipets of the original melody.

The way he does his bending is very interesting. Its actually a very whammy bar styled kind of bending. Nice....

What else did you guys pick out? I mean... lets steal his techniques and stuff!

the stuff he chooses on the first 4 chords [Em-G-Am-Em] and last 4 chords [G-F-C-D] of every cycle. not to dismiss anything between these 2 areas, just highlighting how he approaches build-ups n climax.

2 other versions of this tune that had lots of stuff to steal.

Vai [live in Astoria]

Lukhater [Toto live]

I've watched that video in it's entirety, I think it's called The Essential Marty Friedman. Techniques to pick out IMHO are his bending skills, he often does stuff like bending a whole step and then bending it back down a halfstep to reach his target note. Also on bending he does really quick halfstep bends and returns back to the target note again.

Another cool thing Marty is fond of doing is playing in odd note groupings, versus playing in your usual quadruplets, he does shitloads in 5s. Especially his pentatonics and exotic scales.

A nice way to vary your playing is to look into exotic scales like the japanese one, you can hear him really going far out with it on Black Cat by Cacophony...

Paulo showed that to me when I was just 16!

Thanks Paul!

you're most welcome Chris. the ending segment of Black Cat has some nice clean 'Marty' licks. incidentally, i used that progression to jam with him at his clinic :D

yup i love his phrasing.. bending..etc..

sure, little wing is very overplayed, but every one plays it so differently, that its sort of like the thing every guitarist shd know.

cheers
