Harder to sell gear these days?

Seems like its a buyer's market out there...

I see pedals going for great prices but nobody is picking them up. Lots of for sale ads and very few looking to purchase ads.

Just an observation... maybe its jez me... I duno. :)

Yes. The market is saturated.

Those who can spend - have gotten what they wanted.

Those who can't spend - have gotten what they wanted.

Things are easy to get nowadays too.

In a way - its cool that the gear side of things have opened up beyond the former tone staples (boss, ibanez, digitech, etc) but now that the boutique market is about fully realised, time to kick out those that can't provide quality. Look, even the staples are coming up strong with impressive pedals...

as a guy who once sold a load of shit on soft.

these stuff comes in "seasons" . that means if you sell an item during CNY / Xmas / Hari Raya / After Exams. most likely got ppl enquiring to buy your stuff, rather than the rest of the times of the year when they're broke or no motivation to buy.

actually it's hard to buy and sell lately due to the ppl low balling and rip-offing. I bought numerous stuff that's faulty/going to die already. I just found out the soundcard I bought years ago was half-faulty all the while (I thought my computer was dying back then. but i'm on a good computer now)..

Haha i think its probably due to boutique already becoming the norm, and ppl here thinking that what goes for in TGP will also go for the same here. How very wrong. The used pedal market here takes a different vibe from that in TGP, people here are more value-minded rather than hype so just buy minded. Singaporeans are a pragmatic bunch and they sure do know how to spend their money. I'm referring to the discerning and experienced gearheads of course, not the newbies.

Thankfully for me, I havent had trouble selling my pedals, as those who have bought from me will attest, i let my gear go at more than reasonable prices. no hyped TGP induced inflation going on cos this pedal is discontinued and rare, yadayada.

if it's really below market price, people will buy.
I sold several of mine few weeks ago without problem.

The thing is, people is selling second hand, still expecting high price, if not some profit (if the stuff is gotten second hand too). Like that don't complain if people don't buy lah.

amen to that. Im having a hard time selling my higher priced boutique stuff here. but sometimes my cheaper pedals take awhile too. But yeah from observation, it does come in seasons.

I think its also a sign that the guitar market here is maturing. Of all the people here in soft, u have to wonder about the percentage of home musicians, studio musicians, giging musicians (includes those who play at church or other religious organisations.)

With those who just play at home for fun, nowadays $200 can get u a reasonable practise amp with most of the effects you'll ever need.

For those who gig, or just play with friends in the studio, most will have got all they need after about 2-3 years of experimentation. Then most will realise, more often then not its not the pedal, its the amp. Many drives/distortions in the market sound similar anyway. Then u tend to think twice before u go out to replace an existing pedal from your board.

I also believe theres an increasing number of people using multi effects and this will take its toll on the pedal market. More so when churches are increasingly going towards the ampless route.

The bad economy at this time may contribute a bit as well.

Hmm maybe wait until early jan to sell your stuff after people get they're 13 month?

Gears hard to sell

Gears are not hard to sell if the seller really wants to get rid of the items. Some sellers are selling at the same price as new ones or some are selling at 20% cheaper. Some sellers like to use phrases like " no more in production", "MIJ" or "modded". Nowadays who cares about these. If you buy a Boss DS1 and you modded it and later sell at a higher price. As a buyer, I am looking for a DS1 and if you modded it I dont pay for the modifications.Just like a car. You may want to sell a car at a higher price because you installed a $10,000-dollar Hifi set in it. As a buyer. I am buying a car not the Hi-fi set. Good luck

I beg to differ... some mods like true-bypassed wahs do have added value.

yeah, I may not want your 10K hifi in the car, but hey if you zheng the car with some ultra lightweight alloy rims.
It'll be a plus point to me

also, a MIJ ds1 sounds different form a MIT ds1.

and people care if a pedal is modded or not, cause its value adding to the product

also, if its no longer in production, it IS worth more as well.

and a MIA guitar is usually of better quality and of a higher price than a MIC guitar.

Which is why MIK epiphones are higher valued than MIC ones

Wow.. I was about to start a thread with similar content..
Was planning on naming it The Dark Ages on SOFT..
Lol! Hell yeah man.. Friggin hard to sell stuff nowadays..

Look at how cheaply Pedal-itis is clearing his stuff! Yet it takes him ages to sell that Duesenberg and Gibson Flying V, or Namle's Musicman SUB1 going at $850.. All record low prices man.. Yet they struggle to sell their stuff..

Its all got to do with economics. Big spenders usually follow the market (not the gear market) closely and spend accordingly to the economics situation.

I was away from Soft for almost 2 years and I actually find the community less active than before. It used to be 1 page of new threads per day. Same situation for other SG guitar forums.

A possibility is that more and more people are selling and buying on TGP since there is a better market there. People don't bargain there and international shipping for a pedal is not really that expensive.

Sign of the times maybe....with the uncertain or unfavourable economic outlook and such.

Anyway, here's mine below, Lelong, lelong! :D

lifehouse : "It used to be 1 page of new threads per day" .. actually I feel that we're almost running out of good topics to discuss about. the questions have all been answered. the new questions are labelled stupid.

I have to agree with you. "Kids" nowadays get everything served on a silver platter. They don't really want to google or do any form of search.

I find that asking on forums is a means of finding information, but at the same time, not doing your part to actually research on it and being armed with little knowledge on it, is on the border of being rude..

I have one theory on this "recession" on Soft.. Favourable currency rates shows that importing from the US directly is hell cheaper than it was last time.. Although the more costly shipping (due to oil costs) would slightly offset this advantage..
