Had the most ridiculous (for me) dealing experience today

Some of you may know I have been trying to move a OCD pedal... Listed it at a good price and offers started coming in. Met the first guy today at Outram MRT Station... and I was late. About 20 mins late. My boo-boo.

What followed was quite interesting. Fellow took out his set of jeweller's screwdrivers. Those skinny kind that don't offer you much torque when trying to open anything... they're called Jeweller's tools for a reason. So try and try and finally got the pedal open.

Now this is strange enough, but understandable. I don't open up my pedals anymore so I really have no idea what could be inside. Fellow didn't seem satisfied. Serial number on the outside and the inside was different... Fair enough

Fellow closes pedal. Fellow finds scratch on paintwork near footswitch.

"I thought you say pedal mint? Pedal got scratch. Not mint..."

"Serial number inside outside got different..."

me: "Well... Sorry about the scratch... Pedal has been fine for me, working perfectly. I can guarantee it for you for a week"

"hmm..."

"Do you want it?"

"got scratch... and serial number... I think not"

"OKay. Thanks..."

And I was out of there.

If you were dealing with me today... would you have gotten all tip-toey over those two things:confused:

Just one of those things to put down as a memory. You wouldn't wanna reserve stuff for him.

\\FYI, there is a WTB:OCD ad by davidfong22... he's a good guy. Fellow mentioned above doesn't seem to have a SOFT account.//

It's totally his perogative to refuse purchase there and then if he wasn't satisfied, and he wasn't. Though why he's bothered about a scratch, I'm not sure. The opening up is fine, and unless BOTH of you knew what the serial numbers meant, I think that's a point of contention.

At least he didn't take it, then try to cause problems later like other cases here. Good for you that he refused it on the spot.

haha I had a funny experience before as well, that fella turned up and said he only have $118 bucks when I was selling for $200. wtf? I means its like two bucks...

^Dude...$200 - $118 isn't $2

And to TS, well, I wouldn't want him to open up my pedal if I never did, cause that'll just make it non-mint anymore. Bloody bugger, but at least he refused on the spot instead of reclaiming his cash on a later date.

I responded to a fellow softie some time ago, wanted to sell off a supposedly, beat up piece of drum set. This is what follows via SMS..

me - Hi, Im from JB, U still have d drum set?
him - Yes, I do.. U want?
me - Yes, when r u free? Wheres Ur location?
him - < xxxxxxit doesnt matter anywayxxxxxxxxxxxx>
1 day b4 d stipulated date, had my cash & DE form ready..
me - Im comming in to Spore 2mrw, what time ur free..
him - dont come yet.. I went home yesterday, I see my set broke
me - it doesnt matter, u could just reduce d price some more as Im buying it for spare parts only..
him - my whole set..

probably a gay trying to pick up ppl.
i've had interesting calls from ppl who called up enquiring stuff, but rather than asking about the stuff they ask to go for drink...

Lost touch for quite a while but dont SOFT have some annual mass garage/out-of-the-boot/swap sale/event of some sort?

If not, I think it's a pretty good idea to have one.

Find one nice day where everyone who wants to let go some of their stuff to come down and display it.

Because since everybody is looking, i mean it's not one to one affair, you reduce the likelihood of these freakazoids/weirdos/gonzos/gobloks trying to pull these kinda stunts right?

Just my 2 cents worth...

HAHA then he use his "jewels" and "tool" issit?

please don't ban me la dey.

anyway, life sucks doesn't it with people like those. wasting time incurs opp cost! econs 101!

Who the hell uses jewellers screwdrivers to open up a pedal? You should have warned him beforehand that if he damaged the screws in the process then the pedal is considered sold on the spot.
