Guitar-Selection SOS!

Hehehe.

Anyway, size... i mean, you got to be really really tiny to have serious issues with a stadnard sized guitar. There are players who have small hands, short fingers, 3 usable 2 burnt off fingers, and they have no issues playing the guitar well... or becoming legends.

Maybe the size thing is an un-necessary notion?

And why can't a Gibson do Canon Rock? Or instrumental rock? Or metal?

haha. nope, i'm not tiny and i'm okay with standard size guitar. its just that i find that a smaller guitar = better maneuverability and image, which is *what i really want*. And yeah, a Gibson for Instrumental Rock is totally fine, but i think majority may find it kinda improper and uncomfortable for this style of music. Man, imagine Michael Angelo Batio playing a Gibson...

Anyway. Nah, an RG is quite thick and heavy for me. Hmmm. I think an Ibanez S Series will suit me. But i think i may want to get the S Prestige/24-fret 2008 model. Thanks everyone! :-D

Btw, Can anyone pls tell me whether the ESP Horizon FR-II is light/thin???
Here's a bit about the guitar: http://www.bmusic.com.au/prod3284.htm

>Smaller in size - *If possible* (I'm 15, and 1.65m tall. so i guess a smaller guitar would fit my image better.)

>Light, comfortable, thin. (I love it like this!)

>Floyd Rose. (And a GOOD one.)

Nuff said!

With a bridge like this, who needs a floyd rose???

Go to sinamex and check out the Candy Red one there...

Image?

You want image?

Then... okay....

Get a Ibanez JS100. It will do you good. Small neck radius, light body, affordable entry pricing. If you are not satisfied with the stock pup, change to a dimarzio ones.

Actually, I recently tried a JS100, the weight was rather shocking... it was heavy, almost as heavy as my own guitar, which has a mahogany/maple body.

Anyway, you're very right on the pickups - they should be swapped out, at least the bridge humbucker. The bridge has poor clarity, often muddy.

i thought the js series sounded pretty dead to me. both the js100 and the js1000 that i tried at swee lee sims. maybe its just me =/

That would probably be due to the strings... usually.

perhaps, since most of the time swee lee's strings are rusty. however i have tried a les paul studio (the one that almondx talked about in another post) that sounded great even with strings that were probably weeks or months old. issit possible that its due to the wood of the body? cos i think the SZ prestige that i tried at sims also sounded pretty good even with dead strings as well. haha sorry for noobish questions, im just a noob trying to learn as much as possible xD

Let your ears tell you so...

Over time, your hearing will become more "used" to the tones you are looking out for... so yeap, just go along with that.

When someone tells you xxx sounds bad, make sure you get the fella to explain why... get him to describe it.

I think that's a great way to learn about tone, I learnt a lot from asking people and really, till today, I get the ocassional surprise when I learn about an aspect of tone I never considered/knew.

About the guitars you mentioned sounding better, note they are fixed bridge guitars where the JS uses a floyd rose type. In the FR equipped guitars, I would think the tone is affected by the bridge a fair bit more than say a TOM, since a FR is like... well, point of contact to the body is just 2 metal poles and some springs. Ibanez uses some weird alloy (probably cheap) for their trem blocks and that's a rather dull sounding metal.

easy go get a schecter.maybe C-1 with FR.quite versatile.nice neck.or maybe a razorback.saw it at guitar connection btw.but maybe its to big for ya.the crazy pointy edges.

RG.. Too thick.. And heavy?
Wow.. So what is a gibbie les paul? Colossal?
Sorry. Cuz i have an ibanez SA120, so i think i already got used to it's light weight, and its thinness. Then when i got the GRG270, i was quite shock at how heavy it was, and how thick it was. It was like twice as heavy and twice as thick as my SA120. So now, i think a light and thin guitar is wat i'm really comfortable of after all. :D

if you can wait, the 2008 s-series are rather impressive at a glance:

1. the S is going 24 frets

2. for those of us who prefer a non-locking whammy bridge, the SV:

No. you're right. That's EXACTLY what it's supposed to be: Dead. Because that's what Joe Satriani wanted. He wanted a guitar which was acoustically dead. But in his hands... Heheheh...
