Hey guys, been thinking of getting the above mentioned compressor. Heard many good things about many other compressors, but hey, support local right?:-D

Just hoping to get some opinions on it, both good and bad, and what i can expect. I'm trying to achieve a smooth and fattened tone. Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't believe that you should support local just cos its local- it can be local and its bad..just like something made overseas can be bad too. Lets not have that kind of mentality around here.

That aside, Goose's citrus is one heck of a comp that can beat the hell out of many other more overpriced compressors.

Obviously you misread my intentions, but i can see where you're coming from, so i'm not going to say anymore.

Moving on, no offence but, 'one heck of a comp' isn't really saying much !

Smooth and fattened. I don't know how much of a compression you need... how smooth? how flat?

That said.

Google up optical compressors. That is what the citrus is. You can youtube some videos of optical compressors but the sound quality is poor lah...

Compare against compressors like a dyna-comp (which can get very smooth and flat).

I think you'll have a better idea that way.

well your intentions im sure are good but sometimes ppl just misread things like me so at least im glad you cleared that up.

I would say the citrus is a compressor for ppl who hate using compressors cos it dosent squish your dynamics flat out too much like the dyna comp and its clones ak the keeley. Its rather transparent and it just adds a nice touch of highs to your signal and you still get dynamics but less squish compared to the dynacomp and the likes. So it depends on what you'r going for.

The citrus also adds a nice fluid quality to the sound for fast playing and its super quiet even at max compression....try doing that with a keeley comp. The keeley has a more pronounced "squish" effect and it darkens the highs. Country players love what the dyna comp style compressors do for their sound as they play a tele through a bright fender style amp.

a barber tonepress works wonders too... both are pretty close as per the many discussions way back in the forum.
just that the tonepress has a level knob, its about 50 bucks more expensive and HAS A WIDER FOOTPRINT!! dang i could fit another pedal on my board with the citrus' size.
