How Does Gloomy Sunday Work?

Well, jus an assumption of how it works.

As many of us should know by now, inside everyone of us, there tend to me an inner music that surface out according to our mood or situation. And usually, those musics would become very personal to u. It might even stick 2u for life be it u like it or not, it jus play somewhere in the back of ur mind.

Imagine these situations: ur dearest had passed away,ur investment fails,u jus lose ur job at age 50, u discovered ur spouse had betrayed u.

Imagine if any the aboves happened on a Sunday.. ur usual self would nvr think of dying, however, ur inner mind music keeps linking Gloomy Sunday to ur scenario, it keeps playing in ur head sponteneously and repeatedly, then u unconsiously feels dat life seems too depressive for u to carry on... Won't u be affected?

It's like a guy merely stands at the edge of the rooftop with no intention of dying but just a minimum amount of small push from external force could send you flying down...

In recent independant experiment, 2 groups of mice had been tested by rock and classical music. The result gathered was that the rock group was very agitated and the mice bitten one another; the classical group didn't have any effects like the rock's.

From this experiment, it's very certain dat music can change a person's mood, action or thinking. That is why there are music therapy for relaxation in the market.

Since we can use music for relax purpose, surely it can work the other way round.

And one important thing we've to note, the song contains emotions from one of the worse period of time dat humans had ever experienced. Becos of this fact, the music is very real, the emotion isn't deliberately written down like those commercial music that we've nowadays. Some songs are written for the sake of being written down.

Remember, the most lethal poison is the one that is flavorless, tasteless and colorless. Since ancient times til now, we all know that the best poison is the kind that works without our knowledge. Hence, if u had listen to it and is safe now, dun be too sure yet. Perhaps side effects might take yrs to form. And it might appear in many other forms.

Eg. Maybe it works by making u feel frustrated more readily or you might take more cigarettee than you usually do etc.

Btw, online resources mentioned dat it's more dangerous if u listen to it frequently. So for those who had only heard of it for couple of times, dun assume it's not workable yet. Haha.

oops..wrong topic..my bad.hahaha..chill fellas.

oh but the thing is..when im feeling depressed and shit like that..

i listen to the song to soothe myself..

ah well..hope it wont have adverse effects.

lol when Dhalif told me bout this, i got scared.

but now as i read the threads, not that scary what. the lyrics are alright.

and someone mentioned that it's not the music's fault or something. tru dat. but it's the music that evokes one's emotions. and when the composer writes the song, he was feeling exactly what he wrote and wanted people to feel how he felt. so yeah. maybe he secretly wanted people to die.

omg, maybe the song is cursed! *gasp*

nah, i'm joking. Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

so looking forward to Christmas dinner later. hiakhiakhiak. =D

Update on Experiment of Gloomy Sunday

Just a latest update on my friend's progress upon listening. He's a pretty strong person, who didn't believe any music could have impact on him. However, he told me after listening, the song had indeed left some impression on him. It brought out his painful memories of his previous relationship. And his relationship ended on a Sunday too.. I guess dats the reason why dat song had a personal impact on him...

The after-effect? He says he's still feelin bit moody now which he still couldn't explain why. He listened to few versions and read up most of the lyrics. I think this could be like those who are exposed to radiation, the more or longer ur exposed2 it, the more u'l be affected.

Currently 2 of my friends agree dat the female opera's version has the most impact to swing ur mood. Give it a try.. LoL

hehe, with a failed relationship, anything also can affect mood

1) Seeing people with their love ones walking down the street while too aware of being alone this festive season

2) Hearing the sound of surrounding where once they shared together

3) Seeing the sight of places where once they been together

4) walking thru the path where both walked togther

5) Any music with plenty of slow, moody melody

6) Any word of lost, including love, gone, lonely, horny but no avenue for release(ok, this
one technically doesnt qualify), empty, less, one, etc

7) uncontrolled thoughts of time together with their love ones

8 ) the sudden void in life where once everything seem so meaningful

9) the reduction in seeing the familiar number appearing on handphone either thru phone ringing or sms

10) the power of love, when lost, make everything depressive, even up to jerking off

really, not serious, the above

Gloomy Sunday Symtoms

Stage 1) After listening feels ok.

Stage 2) Think it's nothing, decide to carry on to research more versions.

Stage 3) Still think lightly of it, hence decide to read thru its lyrics.

Stage 4) Show off to peers, "I'd listened, look I'm still ok?".

Stage 5) Thinking to oneself dat ppl should not die for dat song.

Stage 6.. Dangerous!! ) Haha, congrats! U officially got GS! Maybe those who committed suicide also had those symtoms? Who knows?

Jus for a laugh only.

i think if your main purpose is to warn ppl not to listen to the song or think lightly of the effect of the song...then the best way is just don't show it in the first place...
the more u warn a person, the more u make tat person feel curious n make him wanna go listen to it and in the end he'll try to listen a few more times n come back n tell u it has no effect...

imagine if there hadn't been any rumour bout suicidal incidents linked to this song, could it have prevented so many incidents tat happened? i think so...

Suicides are usually not spontaneous, and definitely not triggered off by a mere song, no matter how depressing or sad the song it. Subliminal messages? Highly doubtful. Subliminal messages influence the way you think, but does not convince you to a course of action.

Individuals who actually go all the way with a suicide attempt are usually those who've made a conscious choice to end their lives.

I'm pretty doubtful to how this song can influence an individual's thought to end his or her life. The suicides linked to this song in the earlier days can be attributed to the harsh living conditions and the Great Depression. The composer's death can be linked to the fact that he was living his life in guilt, because he didn't write the song as an overture to death of sorts.

"The composer, Rezső Seress, who in 1933 wrote "Gloomy Sunday", was as bewildered as the rest of the world. Although he wrote the song on the breakup of his own romance, he never dreamed of the results which would follow. "(http://www.phespirit.info/gloomysunday/article_01.htm)

He killed himself because he deemed himself responsible for the multiple deaths linked to the song.

When questioned as to just what he had in mind when he wrote the song, Seress replied, "I stand in the midst of this deadly success as an accused man. This fatal fame hurts me. I cried all of the disappointments of my heart into this song, and it seems that others with feelings like mine have found their own hurt in it."

Any song can be depressing if one's listening for it.
