hey there peeps, i noticed that some gigs still need to sell tixs, last time was around 10-20 but now it's like 30, although there is'nt much left but there are still in existance. i think selling 30 is rather outrages, what you guys think?

I recalled reading somewhere in music magazines that some pubs/places in the US require bands to do that too, can;t remember where tho...

haha obviously the organisers are out to make money lar, so yea. sad. fact is, there's not much anyone can do abt it. money first wad. and honestly, if i were gna play, i'd want to make sure there are at least a fair number of ppl there watching.

bad thing is..
you promise 30 peeps..
organizers get the cash beforehand..
then when got technical difficulty on stage they don't have to care..
why? cause they already have the cash in hand..
just a scenario though..
and 30 tix is preprosterous!

If you can't draw a crowd of 30 people, chances are you're not ready to play on a stage yet. You can't expect an organiser to hire you to play if you can't meet his minimum requirement. If you're in an established band, cool, the crowd will come and the organiser will not need to bother with the sell-x-tickets-to-play thing. You'll even get paid. But if you're not and you're dying to play.. well too bad.

but every band has to start somewhere mah .. if that band 1st time performing but cant sell 30 tickets cause they not famous yet like u stated then how..

If you're not famous enough and your band sucks, then you have to work harder on the music.

If you're not famous enough and your band is good, then you have to work harder on meeting new people and telling them about your band and your music. Publicise. Get heard. Pass demo discs around, get a myspace account, play charity gigs.

Organisers do not exist to give shows to bands who can't prove their worth. No one owes you anything.

crazy..... your band can be good . but what if its your first gig?
become famous before you even play your 1st show?

Hey Nicholas, it's not about who wins. And your band probably doesn't suck and cmi. This is about pointless whining. Organisers enforce their sell-x-tickets-to-play rule for a reason. They do not want to make a loss. By organising the gig, they are giving up their precious time and a lot of hard work comes into organising a gig.

Looking at dashfield_zero's post, he assumes that it is the job of organisers to provide bands with avenues to play regardless of how much money they lose because of a bad turnout. Isn't that more outrageous?

No one said it was easy. You need lots of hard work if you want to be successful. Like I said, no one owes you anything.

Who says you can't get famous (to a certain extent) without playing a single show? Ever heard of the Fire Fight? If I'm not wrong, they were famous before they even played their first show.

But that's a rare case. It's not about getting famous before your first show. Its about establishing a decent fan base before you gig. It can be done. That's what demo discs are for.
Without a fan base, you will not attract anyone to your shows. And then, why would an organiser want you to play?

Yep, The Fire Fight's first "public" performance was at last years Baybeats auditions.

They impressed the judges there and got people talking about them. Now they get to playLime Sonic Bag and everyone wants them at their gig

but then again it could be because josh is from ava. so the ava fans could have been like' let's go check out the firefight.' and Jon is from giants must fall too so yeah maybe the same thing as well.

but yeah the firefight is good

That's where the argument is flawed. You mentioned hire. Sorry, if i remember correctly, employers pay employees. Why is it in this case, employees pay employers to employ them?

Firefight, Josh is in AVA.

Employers pay employees because employees generate profit for employers. No employer would hire a band which does not generate profit, or even revenue.

The 30 tickets = the revenue the band generates for the gig organiser.

30 tickets isn't much at all im sure. 5 people in your band, each person sell 6 tics. im sure you have more than 6 friends.

well, with no commission, 30 $12 tickets is the same as paying $360 to the organiser to play. What ever bands do to the tickets is the band's pasah.

Revenue is this $360 from the band and $$$ from the drinks ppl buy.
