Gibson LP Vs PRS standard satin

Some ppl reach a level where they know what's good or not without needing to play them. Just like you ordered your schroeder without knowing how it sounded or felt :D

almondx, regarding your last post, are you talking to Chan Min or me?

i was just asking a harmless question. thought you might have tried those guitars in person, in order to speak so highly of them.

i have no idea of what kind of 'level' you have attained, if that is measurable :D

as for the Schroeder - if you do a search on soft, you will see that i have never raved about Schroeder guitars. i might do so after i have thoroughly tested mine when it arrives though. :D

i have known Jason Schroeder as a longtime fellow TGP/BAM member, before he even started his company, and was building guitars as a hobby.

when he started his company, i only ordered one as he was a friend i trusted, and unlike others, he was willing to work with my vision of a dream guitar - my decision was not based on someone else's raves.

well enough for now.. back to the topic of les pauls vs PRS..

i have both, and they both rock ;)

Btw Ben, any sound clips of any of ur guits?

And configs for ur gib and prs.

I saw pics on schroeder's forum of your guitar in progress.

Nice finishing touches, what pickups are going in and will it be standard volume/tone x 2 controls?

Yes I am referring to you fenderben. At least I have the courtesy to reply when asked a question. I already know that saying no I have not played a JG can be used as a handle against me if I posted but I chose not to ignore you, because I stand by everything I've said.

Do not put words into my mouth, I have never said you raved about Schroeder's guitars. We need more luthiers like him though.

I do not base my judgement of guitars on hearsay as well. If you play enough guitars, understand the physics behind a guitar, know exactly where to look when examining a guitar for quality be it in pics or in rl doesn't really matter as long as you know what you're doing, identify with the aims of a luthier to perfect a guitar instead of for profit, you would well be in the ball park of knowing how good a guitar is without needing to play it, and this is what I meant by level. A sharp critical eye is all that is required. No scorn needed. If I am unable to convince you, feel free to search the forum for my posts, especially regarding the area of a guitar's finish.

I did not intend my previous post to contain any malice. I thought you were like me and possesed some level of guitar tech knowhow in order to aid your decision of purchasing a Schroeder. Well it seems like I was wrong, since your decision was based on friendship and the willingness of Jason to build your own dream guitar, which is nothing wrong at all in its own right.

Cheers.

PRS definately

What would you choose between Gibson LP standard and PRS standard satin 22 and why? They are in same price range. I prefer Gibson tone (absolutely huge with tube amps) but PRS has better playability. What are your thoughts?

If you are looking for character and tone, then, PRS is the answer. The older LP can match PRS.

ok i give up.

almondx is the best.

SOFT's incomparable guru of boutique guitars :D

i am so sorry i even questioned you ;)

thanks,

i don't have any clips online, but i do have a recent mp3 recording of myself playing my PRS. pm me your email, i'll send it to you.

my Gibson R7 les paul and 1988 PRS Custom 24 are pretty much stock.

the Schroeder will have 2 coil tapped WCR Darkburst pickups (www.crcoils.com), 2 vol/2 tone layout, AND a PRS 5-way rotary in the upper bout. :D

here are the rest of the specs that i came up with:

lightweight flamed korina body

flamed korina neck (24-3/4' scale, 1-11/16' nut width, huge soft v carve)

brazilian rosewood fingerboard, 6105 nickel frets, 12' radius, custom star cluster inlays.

nice curly maple top which is a cross between flame & quilt - Jason let me pick this top out from photos of many tops.

Jason nailed the colour and graphic design that i drew out for him.

:D

Hey Ben...

erm ... a schroeder is a custom instrument?
so technically people who know what they want ... or as you say... people who have attained that " Level " Already know what neck shape they are getting, what frets , what woods , what neck radius, nut material, wiring options .... all the way down to the design of the inlays.

A schroeder is not bought off the shelves.
Neither does one call schroeder and ask him " Hey jason~ i want a schroeder , give me one with EVERYTHING on it... i trust you.. u decide everything ok? "

you would probably end up with a 5 necked carbon-fibre hollowbody 35 string harp guitar
and a bill for US$20,000.

I've based my choices on my previous experiences with guitars ive tried, heard live and/or had the pleasure of owning...

I personally think evaluating a guitar is best done by physically playing the instrument OR at the very least being in the actual presence of someone playing the instrument.
