gibson guitar suck???

You're right. :)

That's why high end guitars exist - the chance of getting great sounding specimens are higher than say... that $300 guitar, which CAN have gems, just harder to find and even when you do find one, how polished is it compared to a gem of a high end guitar?

No, wait. Scratch that. Tone is in the fingers. Gimme a Kapok and I shall out-tone a masterbuilt guitar.

haha i think i hear someone calling for a guitar battle eh?

Guitars are not exactly like cars. Saying a Gibson is better than a Ibanez is not quite the same as saying a Ferarri is better than a Toyota.
But then again, following the gist of ur argument, we cannot compare and say that ferrari is better than toyota, just like how you argue that we cannot compare guitars, computers, mp3 players, stationeries, printers, cameras or wht. Haha.

For one, jap cars like toyota drink less petrol than ferrari for the same mileage. So to some low-income drivers like me, i will think that a toyota is better coz it better suits my needs (my needs for a car is to drive around for convenience rather than for speeding or racing), even though the general opinion of others is that ferrari is better. So i guess, at the end of the day, it is individual's preference, one man's meat may be another's poison.

Guitars aren't made of metal where a perfect mixture is melted to an alloy and molded into its shape by a machine.. They're made of wood with grains from different trees, they are glued and they are heat treated. From the same model (maybe in different batches), few will turn out to be "perfects" and few will turn out to be "disasters". QA for guitars are set to high thresholds where they would accept almost anything that's not rated under "unplayable".
MadWereWolfBoy makes perfect sense with this statement, we should all read this to understand the direction of the argument in this thread.

Good point. And also, do remember that family people will loathe Ferrari's for their lack of seats in a car. To these, maybe a Honda SUV will suit them. How about musos like us who needa transport a ton of equipments from one place to another? Maybe a Suzuki Van will be just our cup of tea. =)

haha.. yeah losing my faith after trying out their newer batch of guitars..
just doesnt seem to be worth the money anymore..
guess the old ones are the only ones with mojo..

This is more like giving priority for necessity than preference. Given the fact that one already has all necessity stuffs but looking for something luxury then I wonder what is his preference will be.

gibson guitars are actually not as bad as all of you gibson haters might think.a comment or two from someone who says "oh,gibson sucks" put you off about gibson guitars,i guess thats really weak of you to follow the wave and chant along that gibsons are lousy, they are this and they are that.just try one,and you will know the differences.although i agree that they are a bit overpriced in singapore, other countries do not have this price problem.if you are a hard core strat or tele lover, you'll probably dont like gibsons.thats fine, but if you hate them just bcos of the fact that you hate the price, think again.its the guitar you hate or is it the brand, thats why you say that this american manufacturer produces lousy guitars.if they really suck, why do people like slash and zakk wylde still use them?gibsons are not lousy guitars, they are overpriced in sg.and, its still up to personal preference to determine which you like better.you can afford a bugatti veyron, yet you still drive a proton cos you simply love a proton.think again buddy

Gee... I wonder how are the guitars Gibson custom shop makes for them... I wonder if they are the same stuff that gets put out for the ordinary people...

those people are jealous cause they can't afford em , neither can i , but i never had a doubt in gibsons quality

Have you ever... sat down and tried a few Gibson to guage their quality?

Of course, assuming you've seen Gibsons before and now... and you are pretty experienced in this whole QC thing.

yeah, those sponsored big bands that go on mtv look like they get super shiny and nicely finished gibsons..
ahh.. thats just what i think, dont flame me..

Everybody can zhng their guitars. Like cars, a Mitsubishi Evo can be pimped to perform as well as a Lamborghini, of course the feel will remain different and distinct.

I can zhng my entry level guitar to perform as well as a very high end guitar (of course after forking out a sum more than the cost of the original guitar) by changing pups, changing the electronics, doing perfect set-ups, releveling/crowning frets, changing bridge, saddles, nuts, pots what ever.

But it still comes back to the most fundimental question... Can we handle such a guitar? A good guitarist makes the shittiest guitar sound way better than those expensive guitars handled by newbs. Skill is what we should focus on, gear's a bonus.

lol..you have to understand that gibson bluff you into thinking that its a good guitar just by pricing it above a thousand dollars....
all guitars body are made by c&c machines..
the only reason to why a gibson plays so much better its because it put efforts into their electronics and setup...

WASHINGTON — Want people to like your product more? Raise the price.
That seems to be the lesson from a new study in which people were asked to taste wines marked with different prices.
Researchers scanned the brains of the testers and found that the part of the brain that records pleasure lit up more for the more pricey vintages.
And that was true even when — unknown to the testers — they were sipping a wine that they had liked less when it had a lower price tag.
Antonio Rangel and colleagues at California Institute of Technology thought perceptions of higher price meaning higher quality could influence people, so they decided to test the idea.
They asked 20 people to sample wine while undergoing functional MRI’s of their brain activity. The subjects were told they were tasting five different Cabernet Sauvignons sold at different prices.
However, there were actually only three wines sampled, two being offered twice, marked with different prices.
A $90 wine was provided marked with its real price and again marked $10, while another was presented at its real price of $5 and also marked $45.
The testers’ brains showed more pleasure at the higher price than the lower one, even for the same wine, Rangel reports in this week’s online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
In other words, changes in the price of the wine changed the actual pleasure experienced by the drinkers, the researchers reported.
“Our results suggest that the brain might compute experienced pleasantness in a much-more sophisticated manner that involves integrating the actual sensory properties of the substance being consumed with the expectations about how good it should be,” they reported.
