Gear News 2006

depends on the manufacturer, these 'maple tops' may be a real quarter inch top, need not be for expensive guitars exclusively. eg: Tokai/ Burny feature a substantive maple cap on selected models, which do not cost a bomb.

do read my earlier post- for a top to be tonally marked, a quarter inch thickness is the standard.

Happen to see this, and I think it really is very nice. Comments about the guitar is good too... 8)

cant paste the image links from office... but to give an idea of what you might be looking at - this guy custom-made his own PRS styled body with a long neck tenon, quilted maple top, transplated the circuit board of the Line6 variax into the body, AND added passive pickups as well. to top it off, he made his own quilted maple battery and circuit board cavity cover! 8O

i saw a good condition squire going for $149 at cash converters last nite as I was walking past..

Sunburst, looks brand new, for those who like squires, i dunno whats the market value, but i tink $149 is damn cheap.

Its at Jurong East Cash Converters, its outside on display.

Gd luck

i though all mid range ibanez are all Korean Made. Picked up an SAS and SA260FM and RG350 at Swee lee Sims drive today. All of them are labeled made in indonesia. when did this switch started? ibanez QC going down?
are we paying too much for thier guitars?

there seems to be inevitable pessimism with guitars made in certain countries. i suppose everyone will switch to trumpets once fenders & gibsons are made in singapore...?

QC isn't specific to countries, because if it's the case, Ibanez's Chinese Artcore should be rock bottom in this department, yes? if you've picked up/ played these guitars then you'll disagree with the punters- especially the superb Artcore Customs. however, there are constructional & fitting issues with guitars made in the far-east but these are misses; within the same inventory, there might be hits- it's up to the discerning buyer to try & evaluate.

manufacturers are also not obliged to produce their instruments in certain countries because at the end of the day, they are in it for the bu$ine$$.

acting on the interest over at 'Gallery 2006'...
