First guitar

i was wondering... When you guys got your first guitar, did you get it knowing a few chords/riffs? Or totally clueless? And did you save up for it without telling your parents? Or did your parents pay for everything and fully support you all the way without realizing that there's such thing as GAS. Hahaha.

I knew how to play smooth criminal on my hand-me-down $100 yamaha classical before I got my electric guitar. My parents supported me. haha.

i was learning drum in church that time and already knew how to play few chords in guitar.. so my parents bought me a guitar when my b'day.. hoho.. it was at year 2004.. a cheap classical guitar and i still keep it.. heee..

as for me, i saved up for my first acoustic that i got behind my parent's backs at sweelee cause i refused to use my brother's very atas classical guitar. After that they got me my first electric guitar and i paid the rest by saving up. Cause they weren't exactly very supportive of it.

First guitar is my Fender 50th anni American Deluxe strat. 2.6k. Safe to say, my parents aren't gonna buy me another guitar for a long time. However when u think about it, if your commited, getting a good 1st guitar is more worth it den buying a shitty cheapo guitar and upgrading next time.

First was a Sx Strat Package for 130 2nd hand from my friend, still have e guitar till dis dae though... Bought it wif my money, and yeah,my mum didnt know I bought it.. Haha! =)

but how many people are actually really committed to learn guitar? Cause many people think it's damn easy then buy after that, lazy to learn and all, dump the guitar one side or try damn hard to sell...

agree with kerplunk182

sometimes im so excited to buy guitar stuffs. someimtes i just feel like stopping.

oh well, my firrst guitar i borrow my firend's classical. then after a few months, my younger brother and i bought a samick strat from Davis...with our hari raya angpao collections :D

if I get my dad to pay, he will buy middle to higher end stuff so that I won't have to buy again. Obviously he doesn't know about GAS, and that one guitar will never be enough...haha.

dad was a musician so no problem in getting any guitars
my 1st guitar was a fender strat(belong to my dad)
i saved up and bought a Aria pro JS series
could only play knocking on heaven`s door at that time

parents objected of me learning guitar, so did not pay a single cent for my guitar stuffs.

took me a few months to save for a craftsman sg, the result of my determination to pick up the guitar. :p

parents didnt allow me too.saved up for a craftsman bass.sold, got a guitar.
BUY!SELL!TRADE! had numerous changes in less than a year.

like kerplunk said,one is not enough!when u have a les paul,u want a strat,vice versa.

Parents objected to me learning any form of music. So after scrimping and saving up, I managed to buy meself a samick. Didn't know of the GAS disease back then. When it finally crept in, I found myself so crapped up in my room with i dun remember how many guitars.

Sold most of them off. So now I only have my Jackson and LTD aaaannnnndddd waiting for my ESP.

Selling off my Jackson to my uncle but keeping my LTD although it sounds like shit. As of now, even while waiting for my ESP, I'm getting GAS to get an Edwards....

I guess that as long as humans breathe in oxygen and carbon monoxide, GAS will always strike you....

meh

Started off with $8 china guitar that I borrowed from cousin with action 2 cm high on the 12th fret. Practised by chord work until my fingers literally bled since the strings were rusty and I didn't know where to buy new strings or how to change them.

2nd guitar was an Epiphone acoustic with Shadow piezo. Learnt strumming patterns, soloes and riffs on it.

3rd was a fake $80 Fender replica I carried back from china. Learnt more about electrics from it. Mastered barre chords on it too since my fingers weren't strong enough to do proper barre chords without any unintentional muting on the acoustic.

4th was a Crafter Convoy sp. One guitar that feels dead and lifeless compared to my PRS, but the amplified sound is to die for.

5th was my PRS. Worked in Cold Storage Parkway over my sec 4 holidays, which were the only holidays I could enjoy not being bogged down by schoolwork. Earned around $1.5k, + my life savings of Chinese New Year ang baos which I have never touched before, managed to buy the PRS with my own money. It helped when I showed my mom the guitar cause she was very impressed by it since it just looked right - colour, shape and all, especially the birdie inlays (except the price tag =D).

And there! I owned a PRS when I was 16 years old. It is very possible to get high end gear at a young age, but you got to work really hard for it. Sacrifices sacrifices and sacrifices!
