bIg deal, so spurs have got off their arse to try for CL qualification this season.... AFC has been TOP TWO in EPL since Wenger arrived - now THATS what I call deserving of the CL place

But their not even in the top 4 right now.

Though I'm not an Arsenal fan, I do admit that when they were on top form, they did re-define the beautiful game. History, however, does not entitle a permanent CL slot, if Arsenal do not qualify (based on league position). Every club's fan feels nothing but antagonism towards their rival clubs, so your statement about spurs is understandable. Don't u think though, that every other team strives towards CL qualifications too? Just that some clubs get the result, some, unfortunately, don't. Based on Arsenal's "top 2" finishing since Arsene Wenger, obviously they did deserve qualification then, but as DarknessFury said, they're not even 3rd or 4th now.

so what? the fact is pool did it last year. so the fact of the matter is, if arsenal wins champions league this 17th may, they go through next year champions league qualification.

ps- man u just kena 3 prata kosong! muahahahaha!!

That's what I've been trying to say all this while. Pool has started a revolution that most clubs may aim to follow should their domestic position fail to take them to the CL. But oh well, why debate over it when the Finals are 2 weeks away? If.. and I mean IF Arsenal manage to overcome Barca, that's when the real talking point surfaces.

It's all a plot...you hear me, a plot!!! Nah just kidding. Well if all you realised, most of us in here have this mindset of Barca being the better team and that equals to Barca having a better chance of beating Arsenal. But I can't shake off this feeling that all which has happened is a charade!Well I maybe paranoid with conspiracy anyways.

Then suddenly Arsenal wins. GOOD GOD! THE AMOUNT OF EGO THAT"S GONNA GO AROUND IN THIS THREAD!

well.. nvm.. arsenal is the underdog.. people have been raving abt ronaldinho, et'o etc.. even et/o have said.. henry who?.. well.. i hope King Henry silences the barcelona team and critics alike with 2 special goals!!!

ps- i also hope france win this world cup! england win my foot!

Azlan: HEY chelski 3 Man U 0! Kopi katai for ME! Looks like Rooney got a taste of his own medicine just like Smith some time back!

Re the CL qualification, of course I'm a firm believer in the old adage those who qualifyer deserve to and those who dont dont deserve to.... Imagine last year pool WON the Champions League though they have not won the EPL for the last 21 years? Champions League? - A real contradiction in terms...If we beat Barca and qualify then we sure as hell DESERVE to be in. Teams who for just 1 season had been hogging 4th spot then for a few months and comment about "deserving to go through" have no biz being in the CL! Jus ask Sol!

BTW If AFC beats Barca - theres no debate -its automatic entry to CL even if Spurs finishes 4th 9which I think they will coz they somehow beat Bolton 1-0 last ngt!)

Reports have stated that both AFC and barca made each 20M+ GBP for making the CL final - I'd say that was nice money....

As for reports on Henry's staying or going? The media and the spin doctors have a field day with such reports - all aimed at selling stories but as AFC has showed, unless they were happy with the offer concerned and are REALLY willing to let a player go (like Vieira) they know what they are doing. Besides, players come & players go but the club remains - always....

One final question: How many spurs players does it take to change a lightbulb? Answer: NONE, THEY ALL ARE USED TO LIVING IN THE SHADOWS!

CL...they're having a laff...

yeah.. i cant wait for 17th may.. if arsenal really wins the look on the spurs team and their fans would be priceless!! they even had a banner in last night match stating that they are going on a european tour next season. i was laughing when i saw that! haahaahaa! arsenal fans have been going on a european tour for so long already! haahaa...

Arsenal3Fabregas 40, Henry 43

If Tottenham are going to finish fourth in the Premiership then Arsenal are going to make them work for it.

Before this afternoon’s game at Sunderland began, Martin Jol’s side had a seven-point advantage over Arsène Wenger’s men but they had played two matches more.

The first of those games in hand was, quite frankly, a stroll for the visitors to the Stadium of Light thanks to an own goal by Danny Collins plus further scores from Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry. All of the strikes came in the first half.

Ashley Cole, who has played just an hour of first-team football since October, came on midway through the second half. Otherwise this was very much a regulation victory on the road.

Arsenal must achieve something similar at Manchester City on Thursday to retain realistic hopes of qualifying for the Champions League via their Premiership position.

Wenger made five changes from the side that had reached the Champions League Final with a 0-0 draw Villarreal last week. Mathieu Flamini (hamstring), Alex Hleb (knee), Gilberto (ankle) and Jose Antonio Reyes (wisdom teeth) were all out. Emmanuel Adebayor, Alex Song, Robert Pires, Abou Diaby and Gael Clichy came in.

There was an end-of-season feeling about this game straight from the start. Sunderland had been long since relegated and the main buzz at the Stadium of Light before kick-off surrounded a possible takeover by Niall Quinn, who had played for both teams during an illustrious career.

The start of the game was fittingly tame. In the eighth minutes, Henry’s near post cross was touched behind by Robert Pires.

Kevin Kyle made a nuisance of himself at the other end. Sunderland threw optimistic crosses into the area in the hope of finding his head. The Scotland striker actually seemed more dangerous with his feet. He cracked a shots wide in the 19th and 35th minutes.

Otherwise the half belonged to Arsenal and, in truth, they did not have to do much to take it. In the 27th minute, Henry curled over a free-kick from the left and Danny Collins, craning his neck over Abou Diaby, nodded the ball past his own keeper at the near post. Five minutes before the break the lead was doubled.

Henry controlled a lofted pass from Pires and threaded the ball through an alley of Sunderland players. Fabregas timed his run to perfection and slipped his shot over Kelvin Davis from 10 yards out.

Three minutes later, Henry caught the Sunderland keeper napping by curling a free-kick over the wall and into the net at the near post. The Arsenal striker shrugged almost apologetically after the ball hit the net. Like most of the first half, it had been just so easy.

Sunderland were most threatening at the start of the second half. In the 53rd minute, Sol Campbell's stumble on the left flank under pressure from Anthony le Tallac and the Frenchman crossed perfectly for Kyle. The burly striker rose well and met the ball with a firm header. Lehmann moved swiftly to his left to tip the ball aside.

But, in general, Arsenal were still in cruise control. As a result Wenger withdrew Henry, Pires and Adebayor midway through the half for Robin van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp and, for the first time since January, Cole.

Just before the last of those substitutions, Henry let fly from the corner of the area and Davis palmed the ball onto the inside of his own post. He was the most relieved man in the stadium when the ball bounced back into his hands.

Aside from a clattering tackle by Dan Smith on Diaby which forced the Frenchman to leave the pitch on a stretcher, the game petered out into a slight odd conclusion. The heavens opened and their side were being outplayed but the Sunderland fans were happy to sing in the rain.

Arsenal fans will be similarly tuneful if, somehow, they can squeeze into fourth place.

Wenger - Why victory in Paris would be just the start
Barcelona v Arsenal

To some, a victory in the Champions League Final might have a sense of “closure” for Arsène Wenger. Beating Barcelona would give him his “holy grail” in his 10th season at Arsenal and the last the Club will ever enjoy at Highbury.

However, for the man himself, it is the end of nothing and the start of everything.

“I have said before that the only thing we have missed since I started here was to do well in the Champions League,” remarked Wenger before the weekend fixtures. “At the moment as long as we don't do it you feel that people will always question why we didn't.

“I'm very happy that we've got to the Final and I want to finish the job on May 17 in a great way.

“But I don't think it will be the end of anything at all. I think it's start of a new era because this is a very young team. Players like Cesc Fabregas, Philippe Senderos, Mathieu Flamini, Emmanuel Eboue, Robin van Persie and Jose Antonio Reyes - they have started with the Champions League Final at their age. It's just the[beginning] for them.”

The question of Wenger’s future will arise if, to make a massive assumption, Arsenal do lift the Champions League trophy in Paris. What do you win if you are the man who has won everything?

The 56-year-old is not thinking in those terms at this stage and anyway he concedes that, whatever happens, his heart will belong at Highbury

“I don't know, I don’t know,” he replied when asked if this would be his last job in football. "I always honour my contracts and my [current] contract runs out in 2008. Of course part of it was to stay through to the opening of the new stadium and keep the team going. After 2008, what I will do? I don't know.

“But Arsenal is the club of my life. I have been here from the age of 45 to 55. It's an age in your life when you have enough experience not to be stupid.

“But,” he added with a laugh, “you can still manage to be stupid sometimes.”

“Still I have managed to be successful in my time [at Arsenal] so, of course, it will always be my Club."
