Seems that you either coach a team to do well in Europe or to do well in the EPL. Different kinds of football.

Anyway, everyone in this house has their fingers crossed for Arse....but against Barca? Man I dont know.....

Thierry Henry
Henry - What I said to Lehmann before that penalty
Villarreal 0-0 Arsenal
Champions League S/F Leg 2

Jens Lehmann’s penalty save at Villarreal on Tuesday is already assured a place in Arsenal folklore.

It will soon be joined by the German keeper’s post-match comment — “Thierry Henry came up to me and gave me a tip but I didn't follow it!”

Now the Arsenal captain has explained what he was trying to do when he had words with Lehmann just before Juan Roman Riquelme stepped up to the spot in the 88th minute at El Madrigal.

“I talked to Jens in the dressing room afterwards about one game that we played at Charlton,” said Henry. “I knew that Paolo di Canio chipped the ball sometimes when he had a penalty. He did it that day [and scored] but I had not spoken to Jens about it.

“After the game I said to Di Canio if you had seen me going to talk to Jens would you have changed your penalty. He said ‘yes’.

“I had seen Riquelme taking penalties right in the middle a couple of times when it was an important penalty. He was waiting for the goalkeeper to dive and just diverted the ball a bit.

“I said [to Jens] that usually when he is under pressure and he is scared he puts the ball in the middle. Maybe, I don’t know, when he saw me going to speak to Jens he thought that is what I was saying to him.

“I don’t know if it was a double bluff. I don’t know Riquelme well but I do watch games. If I know someone and he goes to speak to the goalkeeper you are thinking 'what did he say?'

“Maybe Riquelme changed [his mind] but I just thank God Jens did it all himself.”

Lehmann - Penalty save meant justice prevailed
Villarreal 0-0 Arsenal
Champions League S/F Leg 2

Not for the first time this season, Jens Lehmann is Arsenal's hero.

A memorable campaign for the Germany keeper scaled new heights on Tuesday night when he saved Juan Roman Riqulme's penalty to book Arsenal's place in the Champions League Final. Lehmann felt justice was done at El Madrigal.

"When they got the penalty, it looked like Villarreal were dead already because in the last 20 minutes they couldn't keep up with their game," he said. "The penalty was a gift and it shows you can never be sure in football.

"I don't think it was a deserved penalty. You should ask Riquelme if I psyched him out, but I think he took quite a long breather before the penalty, maybe too long.

"I thought to myself, if Riquelme is going to take it I will probably go to my left. Thierry Henry came up to me and gave me a tip - but I didn't follow it!

"I didn't even think about the crowd. I'm not 21 anymore, there are some advantages when you are a little bit more mature."

For Lehmann, that save was yet another highlight in a season which has seen him earn the Germany No 1 spot at this summer's World Cup after a string of superb performances for his club. Typically, he is not getting carried away.

"Getting to a Final is one of the nicer moments, but it is not a great moment because we are looking forward to playing the Final and we want to win it.

"We hope this is our year but you can never be sure. Now we have to concentrate on the next league games, then fortunately we have a 10-day break before the Final.

"I can't compare to David [Seaman] because he's an England legend, but I am here and I will try to do my best. I came here to win trophies and I will try to achieve that. I like to make people happy and I like to make myself happy."

Judging by the reaction in the away section after Lehmann's penalty save in Spain, he is making plenty of people happy at the moment.

Hmmm FGL, U seem a die hard Arsenal fan and also a pathetic 1.im an Arsenal fan and yes im happy abt they make it to the final because they overcome all odds. So wat ? Did they already win the trophy? Is this their first Cup Final appearance in European tournament? wat if Barca win? i will only brag when they carved "Arsenal F.C" onto the trophy on MAY 17.thats abt it........and for me ,being an Arsenal fan, by looking at the way they play against Villareal in the 2nd leg makes me worried abt the defence. If you an avid footballer fan u will know wat i mean.....

Why are you worried about the defence?

The Villareal match only served to showcase the solidity of our defence and not our attack. At the end of the match, the first thing that should worry Barca is our defence, because they have consistently dug their feet in and shown great resolution.

I would be worried if Villareal had put in 10 disallowed goals, because that would mean something is wrong with our defence.

The only thing I'm worried about that match at El Madrigal is how we kept losing balls going forward. If we play the same way on May 17, then we will lose.

But so what if Barca win? Arsenal today have already carved out a piece of history for themselves, and that is a great achievement for the club.

There's nothing pathetic about FGL's support for Arsenal. I've myself have been a fan since 4 years old, and have newspaper table cuttings to see where my team lay circa 1980. If that's pathetic too then I have nothing else to say. Your support is quite suspect in the sense you only want to celebrate when Arsenal lift the trophy. For me, I celebrate with each step of the way that we move closer to the goal.

Remember, being a club fan is just more than sticking with them only when the sun shines.

last thing barca worried is not Arsenal defence?......are you sure abt tat? Look at how they are ball watching always...the only person rely on is Toure.....it was lucky Franco doesnt score with the header while Campbell watch and just a little push without an attempt to even head the ball. Is not the first time i see this happening. It has been alot of time.....And yeah the record status clean sheet in ECL say tat Arsenal has a good defensive record......btw is just a statistic record, see the bigger picture first.......and abt FGL being optimistic.....their a fine line btw optimistic and over-confidence.......and btw killinghall you been an arsenal fan since you are 4 years old.....you should know whether the defence are shaky or not.....try remind yourself the glory of the back 4 Englishman and you realise how different it is.......and for the record, i can be optimistic but not over-confidence if Arsenal dont do anyting abt their defence.....wat ever the result will be MAY 17, i will always love Arsenal........

1) I said Barca SHOULD be worried about our defence.

2) Campbell may watch, but Lehmann blocked it. The goalkeeper is also part of the defence.

3) Statistics ARE there for the record and surely mean something. Were Arsenal lucky going through an entire season unbeaten? I don't think so. Of course luck played a part, but at the end of the day, it's all very psychological and confidence gets you places.

4) If the English back could produce admiration, why not give yourself a break and tell yourself that there could be a new back 4 that can produce something new?

5) We're all optimistic, of course. Like I said it's all psychological. Feel good and you'll play better. We fans should feel that way too.
