Epiphone semi/hollows or similar

Oh crap I didn't see the budget. Not sure about used prices, but worth checking out used ones off TGP or something.

i like the warm tone ._.

and the fact i can play almost anything on it. ._.

Yup.

@Iwantdigimon: I'm actually the guy who texted you about the Casino lol.

Actually, I don't need a top-of-the-line guitar. Just something that's good value for money. This is why I'm unsure about the Dot (it costs about $700 new at Swee Lee).

I have yet to try the recommendations so far (esp that Rally). Where can I find the Tokai 335 copies?

just curious, what do u guys like abt semi hollows?

other than their looks.

I think its the vibe. well each kind of guitar pretty much has its own story, like when you play strat you think of blackmore, srv, etc, an lp and you think rhoads of jimmy page. When I play a semi or hollow I feel inclined to go Beatle-y, Creamish, etc... and.... F HOLES!!!

I used to own the Dot and Casino. While I admit I was in love with the semi-hollow shape and the warm humbucking sounds of it, I couldn't gel well with them esp the Dot (couldn't get used to the neck). But the Casino is unique cos of its thin neck and its light as well :) I would say I have a love-hate thingy with them.

SAME! omg! I have a love hate affair with my Casino, but that was before my AC4 came! ;) P90s absolutely score on this amp.. The Dot admittedly has a fatter neck, being a strat player I couldnt really get used to the Casino at first too!

hmm.. thats strange. honestly i dont find semi hollows with humbuckers warm. let alone p-90s... i actually love the semi hollows tone so much, especially the es335, cos it really lets the character of the humbucker stand out, compared to a les paul. there's this airiness abt it, the neck and bridge pickup have this very very nasal snap to it. something i love so much. my favourite is middle position. it sounds like a bell. absolutely brilliant. watch some of gregor hildens videos on youtube u'll know what i'm talking abt. i've been trying so darn hard to try to coax such tones out of my les paul. it seems quite impossible. anyone have any tips? :)

eieio, in 1979, i probably was some ageing hippie, that probably died of drug overdose a year later.. i guess i'm an asian reincarnation..

@dude i think the bell like thing is due to it being a semi hollow? unlike a les paul which is a solid bod, the semi hollow has spaces to allow air to vibrate hence the airy feeling u described?

Then again ._. i'm just thinking of the most logical explanation, and hence my explanation cannot be faulted for being wrong XP

seems like a logical explanation, but..

not true. jimmy page managed to coax bell like tones, almost out of phase sounds from his les paul. i'm trying to get such tones. i'm going to get a compressor to amplify those subtle frequencies and overtones later today. barber tone press here i come!

Whoops quoted the wrong post. Anyway, I'm not looking for warmth, bell-like tones or anything like that (don't even know what "warmth" is lol). I want feedback, noise, and buzz. (My 1st choice is actually a Jazzmaster but that's way out of reach $-wise.) Not that the Jazzmaster and 335 have similar sounds at all.

Then the next thing i would look at for him and his sound would be his pickup height. i've been reading about pickup height and apparently the lower u put ur PU (or furthur away from the strings) give the strings more room to vibrate maybe thats what he do to aid his sound? however doing this would lower the output so yea.

Effects might play a role, but that , i'm not too sure

ex14. nah i've tried everything alrdy. my pickups are quite low in. i'll probably get the nasalest pickup out there. gibson t-top. no longer in production but ppl still make clones of em. alnico 5, wound extremely low output.

worked for jimmy. hope it works for me

@ladyintears: lol yeah. not that i hate clean sounds of course. it's definitely enjoyable as well. definitely not black-and-white for me.

@Iwantdigimon: if you're still letting go of yr casino, let me know! you have my mobile..

imho it is kind of overwhelming, in terms of stage presence..
it attract attention the moment you are on the stage, can see from jb & batam
that can be an advantage if one is good, but can back fire if one is just a so so player

to me it is very personal, sexy body, you know like girfriend.. want to see, caress, kiss, etc.
that is why im very comfortable with her in my bedroom or somewhere quiet & private, the guitar i mean,
for those underaged its ok to get but the honeymoon period can be shortlived due to unexplainable causes

as for tehfail, it is better to avoid spending 1k if you are not sure, why not get one below $500, say btw $300-$400?
as you progress, your play improves, can differentiate btw good & bad tones, then slowly upgrade to better more costly models?

i've been with epiphone for quite a while, there are good ones & not so good ones but im fortunate enough to be blessed by mostly the good ones
the oldest epiphone in the family is very old, breaking to pieces due to old age & my first semi hollow electric guitar is this one below which im trying to learn how to revive..
dont know what brand also -
