Epiphone G-400

Hmm.

I guess it depends on the model and what you perceive as 'passable'. For one, I do not wish to put any money down for a plywood guitar or an instrument of inferior make whose manufacturer's goal is to 'emulate' an existing model.

However I must say that I own a TGM ovation copy which sounds pretty sweet (if not why I hold on to it for close to 3 years already?).

Not all 'copy' guitars are rubbish, but they are only meant to target those with a limited budget, and offer you the relevent performance for their price. And only once in a blue moon you get that one guitar which came off the production line that sounds great.

But you'd have to be pretty alert to such things because you'd be getting a great axe for a fook-tastic price. Most of the time it boils down to luck.

But most J&D axes are Alder? At least it says that on its english website...surprising for a China brand...let's say the electronics and stuff are replaced...only maybe for the body, neck, bridge and tuners...would there be an improvement?

Hmm.

Electronics and hardware play a big role in giving you the inspiration to play better.

However I must add that just by zhnging ur guitar does not mean you will automatically zhng your guitar skills overnight.

The sound of a guitar is like this:

fingers > strings > guitar > pedals (if any) > amp circuit > amp driver > ears.

these 7 factors all affect sound and each arguably as much as the other. So regarding your question as to whether there will be an improvement... it's such a broad question i have no idea where to begin other than to give you a general outlook as per the above.

df:wat does the J&D webie say about the SG copy?the 1 with block inlays..i tried tt at ranking juz now..feels gd..thin neck..pretty cool..it's $350..

think the 1 i was talking bout was the 1 in tt BO link..but ther was anthr 1 with dot inlays..didnt check the price of tt 1..

take note Vipers with strap button located behind the upper horn have a tendency to neck dive

yeah,u needa drill the strap button either to the top horn (a la Iommi, which i did) or u just learn to adapt which is a terrible terrible experience :P

i have a J&D SG copy.and yeah it does sound good, the last problem i had with it was the strap button located BEHIND the upper horn.but that was solved,if i'm not wrong i have posted a thread about it here :P

but yeah,i own a J&D and it doesnt sound that bad.

I got a G-400 Custom from Swee Lee.

here are some shots of it, though i realise i didn't take any shots of the whole guitar itself just close ups for now.

You'll have to go into Gibson History to find out this one.

Basically at a point of time, Gibson thought the LP shape was dated. So they designed the SG and called it the Les Paul.

This one is a Les Paul custom because of the third middle humbucker. And Epiphone have recreated it quite nicely.

Hang on... Thats a Gib...

not exclusively- other brand names display such kamikaze tendencies as well...

more accurately, at that time, Les Paul wasn't with Gibson due to his divorce proceedings so the number of singlecuts produced were down + sales for that design at that time took a plunge as well...
