EHX Nano Stone is NOT true bypass?

Tell.

Does a True Bypass pedal, when off, affect your tone?

As in, would the effect "leak" into your tone?

Well.
I would assume, since I'm no tech, that it will not because:

Its TRUE bypass.

nope, not so for the EHX Nano Small Stone. Turn it off, put it before your dirt and if your fingers or ears can't pick up the slight change in tone... turn up your distortion.

There is a ticking sound present... LFO or something, that's what it is called right?

And the Nano is off. "true" Bypassed.

Nice gimmick.

Okay, so the pedal is still really TB-ed?

I did some googling and stuff, some dude on TGP mentioned that he checked the schematics of a Nano and found that while in bypass, there are some components still in the signal path.

Ah well.

Nuthing important anyway... phaser love = MXR style phasing...

If I recall, there was one of the nano line having that problem, not being true bypassed even with the blue 3pdt. Not sure if it's the small stone.

But they were later changed to become true bypassed. The one I rehoused with the micro qtron and the fab chorus was true bypassed.

If it really gets to you
you could but in a 6p2t relay
and bypass it out of the power supply when switch out : )

Think i shall call this "Super Thru Bypass"

>>a buffer or line driver will solve the load down issue .... any buffered pedal will do the trick...but its best after your vintage dirt or else you will get gritty highs ...especially for fuzz type!

i usually put a buffered/preamp/booster non tb pedal last in my chain >>> problem solved !

The design of my boostytm was primarily to enhance tone degration and best placed last in the line as it has pre buff into a tone stack into boost(preamp) ...had a few compliments from sound guys ! :D

Ok I checked my source. This is from Jack Orman of amz-fx, of which countless boutiquers have copied from and not give credit.

"Interestingly, the new Nano LPB is not what I would call true bypass!

Yes, it has a 3PDT switch that handles the LED separately, but there are two ferrite beads and two capacitors left in the signal path when it is bypassed. This leaves a possibility that the pedal could interact with other pedals or an amp even when it is off.

This must be a mistake in layout (there are some others too), or a limitation of using a single layer board (for lower cost).

regards, Jack"

So it wasn't the small stone. Still, apparently there are different batches of the nano line, and some of the older ones had some problems which were promptly fixed.

Vernplum, you are right... True Bypass has its place and stuff - this thread was not meant to overly-promote TB-ness....

Mr Orman has been often "forgotten".... sad but its business isn't it. Anything for dough.

Jack Orman is truly an advocate for DIY. He was one of the pioneers in the scene and he designed and shared truly GREAT sounding effects.

There was another godfather of the scene who was always undermining his efforts with unnecessary remarks and poking him at all the wrong places. Too much I tell ya... Some archived DIY scene politics for ya all.

Also too many people have borrowed, copied his designs ethically and unethically including some BIG name pooteeek builders.
