EHX Hum Debugger

humbucker wouldn't work. 8)

I'm not too sure about that, there's lots of other sources of hum. If you have bad or unshielded mess of wires, ground loops, power supply hum, etc, maybe it gets rid of them too.

Now i know how to kill off someone's gig! Must get that black round thing to saboh them with all the hum!

even if we were to get the unit, we won't know what is going on unless if you have a strong foundation on digital electronics.

Probably some proprietary digital chip with some custom source code.

or a generic chip with some eproms plugged in (doubt so).

EH have gone towards SMD and I won't be surprised if I find a circuit board inside that looks like a Line6's. URRRGGGHHHH.

The proof as always is in the tasting. So lets all wait for the pedal to come in.

If it can denoise my Msian carpenter custom made pump it to the sky P90s pickups. It'll rule!

decided to revive this thread. so has anyone tried it?

can it effectively (no pun intended) replace noise gates?

humdebugger

the other guitarist in my band uses a jazzmaster and he bought a humdebugger from ebenex about 2 months ago. first off let me start by saying that we have ahd a look inside but quite frankly we have no foching idea what to look for or what we were looking at so i have no idea how it works. so... apologies for all those expecting techie or detailed info.

it takes away the hum from his jazzmaster, his strat and my guitar with p90s very effectively. when we tested it at ebenex it blew us away it was so quiet. so... all in all a really impressive pedal, especially for recording where excessive noise can be a pain in the ass and most noisegates aren't really transparent...

however, about 2 weeks ago while recording we discovered that when u use the debugger with drive and then you do the scratching your strings chugga chugga thing before crunching on the big power chords then the debugger gives this real unatural robotic sounding... chug? i dunno how to describe it except it just does not have that beautiful chimey scratchy noise that strats or single coils seems to have when you're not actually fretting any chord or notes just scratching the strings yah? its not that big a deal, i believe one would not really notice it live and the pedal really does take away your hum very effectively, but as i found out it has very slight limitations for recording purposes.

hope this was helpful.

noise is good ....

the ability to feel pain is good too ...

it tells u that something is wrong !!

The 60Hz hum is usually due to bad grounding of equipment and possible poor guitar shielding. Simple maintenance and some mods/upgrades can reduce hum to desired level without any tone coloration.
There are high end audio equipment with similar *noise suppressors* but are usually ignored ....

Btw ..if u fellas notice HD runs on AC ...that should tell us that it *might be* digital .. eg digitechWhammy ...or DSP maybe ... but the reviews are not favo ..

Well,,,the pedal I tried at the store killed the hum, but it almost had a microphonic caracter to the sound, in other words it changed the sound of the guitar rather drasticly, it almost sounded like there was a tiny bit of a reverberated sound, & when I tapped on the pedal, it was a loud noise when I tapped on it with my finger.
I definately think there was something up with this pedal because, if all those pedals sounded like this one it would've been trashed from the get go, I don't know how anyone would let this tone shaping pass, totally unacceptable.
But like I said, this one I tried, there must be something wrong with it & I'll try another one at my first oportunity, too bad the store only had one.
I'll post another review when I try another one.

It take away some hum, but gives you a very very subtle phasing too. Some may like it - i just don't know at this moment.

Well it really kills any hum in the signal...no more problems with singlecoils!
BUT THIS PEDAL KILLS YOUR SOUND, TOO!!! If you activate it, it thins out your tone drastically!!! In the strong-mode more than in normal mode.
For me it's just not acceptable, I don't like pedals that change my sound this way!

We have 50 years of good music with "hum" ....so why bother !!

anyway i have heard very varied reviews... the thing is they are very extreme. some of the reviews are VERY good and some are VERY bad. pretty controversial mystery pedal. doesnt help that nobody knows how it works :?:
