You have to turn off only your LIGHTS, right? Other things that require electricity can still be turned on? Like my computer and stuff.

If you want to do your part against global warming, would you want to turn on other electrical items? :)

As some of you guys might know, my band Aurigami is playing at Thai Fest tonight, exactly from 830-930, and i am very much of an "Earthly" person myself, so i feel pretty terrible that i cant be part of the Earth Hour movement directly. BUT, i have been practising good energy consumption habbits over the past years by making sure that electrical plugs come off their ports EVEN WHEN SWITCHED OFF, because they still drain electricty AS LONG AS THEY REMAIN IN THERE, doesnt matter you've switched the plug off, less the master power is cut off.

Also, among the other little things, i make sure i boil water that i will only END UP USING, not the whole kettle, because the more water you boil the more electricity you consume.

It is the little things that count.

So the only thing i can do tonight to contribute is to spread a message, be it thru my music or rather guitar:D

how much i love u... the rice

We killed many trees for those guitars and timbers for song sheets... :(

I try to save the Earth by memorising and becoming vocals so That I don't play the guitar, but can't be helped how? :(

I love you Earth, please last another 100 years, at least :)

K this is random..lol

Its great to have this kind of effort. World effort to save the Earth.
We must take this seriously, one effort , and all will be OK! :)

there're always sceptics, unbelievers or people who just wanna oppose u no matter what the subject is. try starting any conversation about anything and 100% of the time somebody will not agree with you.

believe it or not, earth hour is not about the hour itself. it really IS a publicity stunt, and they DID tell u this. one of its purpose this time round is to get 1 billion ppl to pledge to switch off their lights from 830-930pm local time to show the world and leaders of the world that something has to be done to save our beautiful earth from global warming

what many ppl fail to see is that earth hour is more of an awareness. a message to the heart telling u that, yes you can do something about it. yes other ppl are doing it around u. and yes what you do makes a difference.

earth hour is not about the hour itself, its the impact it leaves in our lives from then on. it's not about saving the earth just for 1 hour, and going back to your regular lives after 930pm tonight. if you truly believed in earth hour, it won't be earth hour to you anymore. it'll slowly become earth day... earth week... earth month... earth year... earth life =]

prepare to be opposed with this msg though. the ppl of this world are growing too smart. some can convince you a durian is actually an apple =]

Agreed! Physically, having a bunch of people turn off their lights for one hour isn't really going to do that much. Actually, if 1 billion people do turn off their lights, it might have a significant impact. 1,000,000,000 is a big number...

This event is to raise awareness. Whether you agree or disagree doesn't really matter, the point is, you have been informed. You now know (or have been reminded) about the dangerous state Earth is in. Earth Hour is also showing the world that there are many people who do care about Global Warming and are willing to do something about it.

Peace.

i think earth hour is crap as well. no doubt it raises awareness. but does it WORK? will it result in anything? or will it breed a group of people who think it's fashionable to pretend to be 'green'? just because you switch off your lights, does that mean that the power stations in singapore will burn less fuel or generate less electricity?

and i think it is very hypocritical as well. the environment has never been on the political agenda in singapore, compared to other countries. the NEA uses manpower to go around fining people who litter and smoke, which goes into tax revenue. how much of this portion of tax revenue goes back into maintaining the environment? what is being done about pollution from motor vehicles? what about alternative fuels? what about the regulation on diesel vehicles? what about the endless digging of roads and heavy construction vehicles? what about the mosquito men who go around fogging housing estates with pesticides? what about congested air and shipping lines? what about the endless use of air conditioning? what about the incineration of waste and lack of real recycling efforts?

the list can go on. but obviously people only respond to glamourous media gimmicks, as long as they are not inconvenient. that is disgusting.
